    Hi,
I am new to this site and kind of new to making webpages to. I thougt opendesigns.org looked cool and was going to download a template. However, by investigating a little bit I am now worried that my template will spread spam to the visitors.

I will explain: If you look at the source of any page (for example this forum page) on opendesign.org you will eventually, if you scroll down a little bit find the following line:
    <script src="/mint/?js" type="text/javascript"></script>

When you click on the link "/mint/?js" a new source page opens. If you scroll down on this page you will find hundreds and hundreds of Viagra-adds-lines like this:

    online viagra

Is the whole opendesigns.org page a fake for making me download templates and then spread Viagra-adds to my visitors? I have no idea since im a newbie but I would like to know what you think. Thanks!

This site was hacked a while back and the admins are too lazy/incompetent to fix it up properly. There shouldn't be any spam in any of the templates that you download.

Well the designs that you can download should all be pretty safe to use. I seriously doubt that you would find any malicous code inside of a standard HTML template. After downloading a template, open it up with a text editor (notepad, Kate, Dreamweaver, whatever) and see if you can find any javascript in the page. That's about the only way you're going to get something bad started. Secondly, look and see if there are any links that start with HTTP:// those links are going out to the internet. Read the address and see where they are going, if they don't look like something you would know (google.com, msn.com, yahoo.com, twitter.com, facebook.com) then delete them, it's your template now, you should have the links that you would like to have.
So download away, have fun and enjoy the templates!
