    Hi,
I posted on here before as I started to create my first site in Dreamweaver after swapping from Front Page. I have been watching all the tutorials there are on adobe and you tube and it all looks not too bad. I can do all sorts of things, yet... I seem to be having the greatest difficulty on what looks very simple on the tutorials.

I open dreamweaver CS4 prepared with a file named with the title of the web site and in this file I have subfolders titled templates and another titled images. I put into the templates file the three parts that I get with the CSS templates with on this site- index, images and css. I then begin by opening the index file in dreamweaver, save this as template with editable areas, and I now have my dwt file. All is well.
Now comes the problem, I want to make some new pages obviously with the template. I go to file-new-then new from template and I get a new page and the text is there but not the design it is all white with text. I then try a different method of right clicking on the root file and new file and I get the same thing. I try another way by going into assets and drag my template onto the new page and the same problem (white page with just the text from the design). The only way I get the template on is if I right click on the index.dwt file and choose new file. I can make as many as I need to from here, but my pages are now not in the root file and I am guessing that when I publish it will not work. I have tried different css templates and that is not the trouble.

So do I have to have my index.html file in the main root file or can it be in another file?
Also after opening the index file and saving it as a dwt file, can I then delete the index.html file and create a new one from the template?

I very much appreciate your expert help.

Can the template.dwt file (and the stuff related to it) go in the root directory?

Perhaps you should go to the adobe forum for dreamweaver help. The people there will be more familiar with the product than I.
