   Have you seen this before?

   one of my clients has a wordpress blog he runs himself and is getting a comment spam loop.
   I haven't seen it quite like this before. Here is basically what is happening.

   He writes an article
   The first part of the article if copied onto another site, with a link back to the full article.
   Then a comment is left from the copy site, with the author link back to the copy site.
   The text of the comment is the copied part of the article and often contains the link, which is where the comment is posted.

   A strange loop. Mostly I'm wondering how are they copying the article. I'm assuming from RSS. Any ideas how to prevent any unwanted copying?
   It can't be good for SEO either, since the content shows up 3 times, all linking back to the original.

   Wordpress has trackbacks built in. When one Wordpress blog links to another a comment (trackback) is put in with a brief snippet of the post with link on usually in regards where the link is. The idea is that it's supposed to work nicely with something like.

   "Also this week I read this great ariticle click here to read it"

   Where "click here" is the link and the snippet is automatically the text around the link.

   It sounds to me like someone is just syndicating the wordpress blog and linking to read the full article. That is the whole or at least one of the main points of rss feeds isn't it? If you don't want your articles syndicated then simply disable them, but I don't see anything wrong with what you've described.

   Yeah I don't mind the republishing with the link back.

   It's the whole comment on my site being my article and a link to the article, (the comment linking to the article it's commenting on)

   Seems very spammy, and the sites posting them are only links to other articles.
   I can't imagine Google doesn't see this as spammy with triplicate content and links.
   The spam filter is catching them. Think I'll leave it at that for now.
