I was asked what are the pros and cons of a virtually static (besides includes etc.) css/xhtml site vs Wordpress.
Obviously one is a CMS. But I'm looking for your other thoughts when making a decision on which to choose.

You hit the nail right on the head. If it comes down to having to manually edit static files or using WordPress as a CMS, I say go with WordPress, especially if you have a lot of pages/content. WordPress is also very SEO friendly out of the box.

That depends on the size of your website.
Obviously, any XTML/CSS page can be customized to display exactly what the owner wants and give to the search engines exactly what the webmaster wants to give.
The point of using a CMS is when you have too many pages to manage or you want to use one of the CMS features, like a blog engine, a news system or a forum.
If you are using your own back-end scripts, then don't use any CMS. The CMS would just stand in the way.
There is, however, a whole class of CMSs developed for handling small websites that are a valid alternative. That's why LightNEasy was developed in the first place. It is directed to 90% of the websites on the web, which consist of half a dozen semi-static pages and are handled for non-experienced users.
CMSs don't have all the answers, and the biggest mistake you can make is using the wrong CMS for the task you need.
Like using a blog engine for running a website which consists of 2 static pages with custom scripts and a forum..... Much, much better would be to use no CMS at all.Posted 2 years ago #
