  1. So I'm going to be redoing the website for "Tropical Smoothie Cafe" and I have a question.
They want a training "game" for employees. A flash game obviously.. It which a random smoothie from the menu is generated and they have to fulfill the order by dragging and dropping the ingredients into a blender and then it is confirmed. This doesn't sound to hard. But maybe I'm wrong. I think i could make a primitive version with javascript but I would rather to a flash one. Could anyone point me in a good direction.
    Thanks

If you want javascript, use jquery and search 'how to make games with jquery' in google.

I found this tutorial but its really bad And they barely tell you what to do.... If someone could help "translate" this, it would be great.

You will have to know ActionScript to do something like this in Flash. Check out kirupa.com, they have a lot of tutorials.

Connor, I've done a lot of this type of Flash work including using ActionScript and connecting things to a MySQL database for options, data storage, etc. I believe you've seen some of it on my gaming site. Contact me off forum and we can discuss in more detail.

  9. Connecting the flash game to MySQL would make adding new smoothies or other recipes a lot quicker, however, it will be a lot easier to create if you just put it all in one flash file and don't rely on outside data.

  10. I have a meeting with them this thursday. They might not even have access to mysql so we'lls ee. Nonetheless Flash + MySQL sound like a pretty sweet thing that i need to know anyways. I'm super busy right know. I'll send you an email a little later tonight sean. Thanks.

@Utah web design: I like having certain things in either an external file or MySQL database because it makes updating a lot easier without having to recompile the flash file everytime something is added.

@Connor: Ok man. Email me when you can.

  12. @Sean: I totally agree, but it sounds like conartist is relatively new to flash and depending on programming experience jumping into Flash + MySQL can be a hard thing for people just learning actionscript.

@Conartist: learning Flash + MySQL really is very powerful skill to have so I recommend learning it. But if you are in a pinch to get this project done, and your running into problems just getting the game to work without external data, I'd just wait a bit to learn how to integrate the two once you feel comfortable with actionscript in general.
