I'd assume at some point they'll probably put up a page that lists the costs to advertise. Right now there aren't any true ads sold on here. The hostgator on the front page is Joe's affiliate account, and the theme galaxy one I'm looking at right now doesn't go anywhere (it links to #).

The Theme Galaxy link works on the homepage but not on the forum page yet. While they have serious content I wouldn't want to buy from a site to which I am forwarded via an URL with "junkie" in its name (from a customer's point of view). -- OD Ads shouldn't be bigger than template prewiews, imo.

I didn't see it on the home page, I still saw the place holder ad. Then I realized I was looking at the TODC3 front page (see the sticky "beta tester" post). Anyway, that's just another affiliate link, not really a paid ad. I'm sure they'll release pricing eventually.

How mcuh are we getting for these ads? Does all the money go back into OD or does Joe get a cut (I got nothing against that)?

Now would be a good time for Joe (LobsterMan) to speak up... all these things going on around the site... but right now he's the only one who has the answers... speak up Joe.

Guys, long time no chat!
I'd just like to confirm that Theme Galaxy is my (and a friends) site and we are NOT paying to advertise on OD (nor did we ask for the link to be put there - although we are grateful), the link on the homepage is an affiliate link. I'm sure you all know what that means but in case not; basically if anyone comes from OD to Theme Galaxy and makes a purchase, a commission will be sent to the owner of OD.@wundertype.de; I'm sorry to hear that. E-junkie is however a widely renowned and respected e-commerce solution.

I see you still think like this is a community site (We? OD?). From what I see OD is Joe now. I made my last donation to OD (Joe?) last month.

Do hold your breath.

Tomw, Any donations made to OD never made it to me, I'm running the site and hosting from my own pocket. Thankfully, we can support ourselves now with relevant non-annoying ads, And we do not need to ask anyone for donations.
If anyone is interested in advertising, contact me. we should have an info page up soon.Posted 2 years ago # -
It’s nice to know that you’re still around but just don’t speak up much. And it’s also nice to know that you are not OD. Nevertheless OD is definitely does not feel like a community site anymore but I hope it will not turn to like OSWD (no forum, no new designs) OWD (got a forum but can’t post).

OD will always be committed to being a place for designers to talk, and much more. We are launching some more cool features soon. I just want to fix the design preview first, people seem to hate the current one. Sadly nobody spoke up before we launched the new design :(

And about speaking up, I'm not a big talker, but if there's a question that's up to me to answer, I will always answer.

I don’t think the people hate the current one but just like the old one better. Maybe people will have less complains if the design is selected by community vote just like the original one. I’m sure some of the designers here will be happy to submit theirs.
It’s nice to know you are working on more cool features and I’m sure they will be but we might have a better feeling of community if the features are developed by some of us even if they are not as cool.
These are not questions so no need to be answered.

Or what about the option to pick which theme you want to see...
Maybe a drop down box?
Personally I much prefered the old design - the new one feels too commercial and the text is too small.

We are listening to the feedback about the design, and will improve it. The old design is gone. I miss it too, but it was time to refresh. Maintaining 2 versions of a site as complex as this would be a nightmare to beat all nightmares.

@ Jay: Please excuse my lack of information. Happy to hear that it's completely drug-free ;-)
I like your work very very much.
There is one detail on Theme Galaxy that I don't like: the top corner radius of the Mac style prewiews is to big and lets the outline break away. I'd give them the same slightly smaller radius of all the other elements on the site and re-draw the corner outline. -- That would make the junkie look extra clean ;-) ;-)
@ Joe: You forgot to make Jay's link work on the forum page.
