Your actions on OD
(18 posts)-
We've had some ups and downs recently with the Open Design (OD) forums and a few users getting out of hand, which is why I'm starting this thread. When it comes to posting or commenting on the OD forum, nothing personal as a bit of criticism/feedback is appreciated and necessary for the site to grow, but sometimes things get out of hand and some people don't seem to know when to stop. This causes unneeded stress and tensions around the community. Personal abuse will not be tolerated - ever - and after a warning of this type of abuse, if it continues, the user(s) involved will be banned from OD for 2-3 days to cool off. Maybe longer depending on circumstances. I'm thinking a 3 strikes policy. Users will only receive 2 warnings during any rolling 3 month period. Any incidents beyond this will result in a permanent ban of the user's account. We will send specific emails to the offending user(s) explaining why the ban took place. Don't bother trying to register a new account either because that will also get you banned. We need order around OD... and we are now going to put the hammer down on people who abuse things. There will be some new and updated rules for the OD forum in the coming days but for now, try to just be good humans and treat each other with respect. Some of my forum rule suggestions will be: NO OBSCENE LANGUAGE The OD forum is intended for family use. Please refrain from using any vulgar language that would offend someone else. Inappropriate words will be edited. NO OBSCENE MATERIAL Please, no pornographic material or links to it. If it is not fit for family members, it is not fit for here. DON'T DO IT! We have a 0 tolerance policy on this one. NO PERSONAL INSULTS OR ATTACKS We provide the Open Design forum for our users to gather and discuss Open Designs, templates, css, etc in general. You are free to disagree with others, but if you stoop to personal abuse or attacks, your post(s) will be deleted. If you ARE insulted please report the post to an admin or moderator, but DO NOT retaliate. NO TROLLING, FLAME WARS OR "TRASH TALKING" Trolling and/or attempting to bait others into a flame war will not be tolerated. Any posts we deem to fall in this category will be deleted. This includes inflammatory comments about vendors and/or other people.Posted 2 years ago #

I posted on the other thread the same time it closed, but something to consider from what I wrote: "Sean, maybe we should consider a complaint department area where concerns are emailed to an admin, then an admin makes a decision over it with the other mods and admins. As I said in another thread, "too many indians, but not enough chiefs" Nothing wrong with opinions, but name calling is crossing a fine line. We need to have complete order on the forum.Posted 2 years ago #

@arwen54: No problem. @NickyD: I agree with you. As you can see, we are now taking some hard action on things. I think my proposed forum rules/guidelines will help a lot and they are just basic common sense and respect, but not everyone has that unless it's written out for them in black and white... and as a disclaimer, I am not pointing the finger at anyone specific when I say "everyone". I'm generalizing.Posted 2 years ago #

Seeing what's happening on the forums for the past few weeks, the admin email idea is great. Thanks Sean, hope it works out.Posted 2 years ago #

@SeanPollock: It's over now. Just be sure to read the forum guidelines thread. No need to comment on it, but be aware of the guidelines in place now... they are pretty easy to follow and nothing too outrageous... mostly common sense and respect factors.Posted 2 years ago #

Thanks everyone for your support and understanding. The forum guidelines now have an official page on the site and you can get to it from multiple locations (home page, help/faq, sitemap) and of course from this thread.Posted 2 years ago #

@JJenZz: Indeed, I am leaving as an admin, but not before a few more things get settled... so more then likely within the next 30 days or less... and when I do leave as an admin, I will still be around the site doing things, just not in the same capacity... probably more of the accounting, adsense stuff which I am also handling while being an admin now.Posted 2 years ago #
