Yes, we had a little bit of downtime. I reported it to our web hosting provider. After things got back online, I asked what happened. The reason from the hosting provider was: "It was an error on the part of a tech working in the area. A network cable was lose on the front end web server. It was a once in a million issue." Our host is really great with communication and if there is ever an issue, they get things going really fast. All is well and we should be fine now.

This is not the first time that this has happened. I have had difficulty connecting several times during the past week. Today I could not connect for about an hour.

@zanzibar: no hosting provider can give 100% uptime guaranties. Our host is really nice and provides us with great service and support. OD also gets a ton of traffic 24 hours a day, 7 days a week... so it's possible that you tried during a large traffic spike. Last week was also holiday time so the internet as a whole was moving slow because of all the traffic internet wide. OD is also prone to DOS attacks on occasion. As a founding member and site admin of OpenDesigns, at the end of the day, since we launched one year ago, we've had a great uptime track record with very little downtime.

Well, unless you're Google.de and forget to renew the domain name causing not only downtime, but also loss of control over the domain for a brief period of time. So much for German efficiency eh?

Plex: To host a website with Google, you have a domain like http://yoursitename.googlepages.com so that wouldn't work for us. Also, even Google has downtime, that's why people always say 99.9% uptime. Google has data centers all around the world and I know for a fact that some Google properties have gone down for a brief time. One example is the Google blog. It was down last year (2007) for about 45 minutes. It happened when most of the world was asleep, but still, it happened. Anyway, this thread is about OD, not Google :bakie: OD is back up and running. Hopefully we won't have downtime again... at least for a while
