   Welcome to this forum, a place for OWD members to talk while the OWD forum is down. And hopefully discuss the starting of a new fully comunity-based website. About a year ago, MonkeyMan left OSWD for this same reason, and now they seamed to have removed the forum in OWD. And now the same thing is happening to OWD. What we need is a community site not privately owned by anyone, and a larger number of admins. Please share your thoughts. Joe (LobsterMan)

   i'm not a designer but can see how you'd all be angry. it certainly is suspicious timing ;) anyhow, i have a domain(not wpdesign.org) that is great for a new open community and i would donate the domain along with hosting if everyone decides to go that way. we can have a vote to see which forum the community wants to use and then we could go from there(my votes are vanilla or punBB). i'm not saying i want to abandon OWD completely but i've noticed some funky things going on there and would rather have a community that has many admins as well. on another topic: i have the backend code for wpdesign.org which right now almost completely automates template submission, has multi-admin capability and with a little more tweaking might fit nice in the new community for handling the template submissions. i would donate the code for this and set it up(of course). the code from wpdesign also allows comments on designs which i think OWD was lacking. if anyone wants to get involved in wpdesign.org's Beta just go to http://wpdesign.org/blog/archives/3 for more information. once you register on the beta site you will get a public account and you can start uploading designs immediatly and they become viewable immediately(read the blog post for more details). sorry for the hijacked post lobsterman :)

   I registered as a beta tester, Stan and will play later... I also emailed you, Joe, because I have a domain already registered that has sat around for a year and I offered it to Monkeyman back last fall and he never transfered it...opensourcewebdesign.org I'm more than willing for us to use it...let me know :) wpdesign works for me too..so it doesn't matter which way we go...nice to know we have options, right?

   Yugnats. I am also registered as a beta tester. I only have one suggestion regarding the design: You might want to try and pick a more warming one. If you need any help with the design I can always help out.

   yep ethan, i'll take your help - what kind of design do you have in mind? send me your ideas or post a link on the blog with a screenshot or whatever if you like :) wpdesign is my pet project but i will definetly take any and all help and suggestions. that being said starting a seperate community either using arwen54's domain or my other domain- it doesn't matter. anyhow, lets see what some others think and we'll go from there :)

   Ok. I will set to work on coming up with a design for the site. I was thinking of going along the lines of OSWD some what or creating a completely new design. What would you say.

   Some good ideas coming up. I'd be glad to pitch in to help set up an alternative community. (Got your mail, Stan, but haven't got around to registering yet - still puzzled with whatever's going on OWD-wise!)

    Hey all. What a crazy 24 hours. Damn. I talked with Shay and a new forum will be up soon. If you recall, we all wanted better forum control, editing, admin stuff, etc., so this is actually a good thing. As for the site itself, remember MonkeyMan sold the site to Shay... so you might want to bring some things up with Aaron. I am under non disclosure to discuss details but I will tell you MonkeyMan should be answering most of the site ownership questions... not me. I'm only a site admin for OWD approving designs as we all know... and... I also have a complete backup of the entire site :) On that note... many of you have contacted me via email... actually I have received 100's of emails the past 24 hours... so bare with me while I dig through them all and reply. I've worked with Joe/LobsterMan for a while now, so he's good people... and most of you know I am too... so hopefully something good will come out of all of this. Ok, now back to the down pour of emails I have to read thanks to the forum being down for maintenance...

    Can I just ask what this place is about? Not being rude or anything, more the complete opposite, I'm just curious! I thought OpenWebDesign.org was fine... and it's just a forum upgrade that's happening now, it's not collapsing and failing like OSWD is it? I mean to be honest OpenWebDesign.org could do with being re-designed and re-coded even to fix security loopholes that seem to be appearing lately, like those links in the themes, what the hell happened their?! Anyways I have no idea whats going on, but I'm here anyway :)

    I'm here too, thanks for the mail, Joe. About OWD, let's not jump to conclusions, since the current situation, bleak as it may seem, might turn out to be a big missunderstanding. On the other hand, starting a community governed website, a true one, really is appealing...

    OWD is selling out worse then OSWD did, inserting commercial links in out designs, so even if the forum is back to "normal" in a day or two, it lost the open source spirit ever since it was sold to shay, who only cares for the profit.

    I wouldn't call OSWD a sell out more of a walk out. But that is just my opinion on what Frank did.

    I know, but at the time, he was accused of selling out to commercialization. this time it's real. and anyways, the new owner doesn't care what we think, so if we don't move on, we don't have a chance of ever adding the cool features we want.

    haha yeah i noticed they were inserting using target="_blank" which is an invalid attribute in XHTML 1.0 Strict / XHTML 1.1 probably shouldn't say this but i completely forgot about Jen! oops :o)

    oh, good, Joe:) @christopher...most of my designs are XHTML Transitional so the anchor target wasn't the problem...they also inserted a spacer gif with alt-tag missing and that's what invalidated mine and then they linked it to Dubai apartments? huh?

    what i find interesting is no one is even talking to MonkeyMan... he after all sold the site... not even I, one of the trusted admins was told about it until it had already happened. so should i not even approve designs anymore on OWD now that this movement is started? for what it's worth, i don't think OWD is dead and there are a lot of cool things in the works and as of last night shay has provided me with way more access... complete actually... so if there is anything i can do, ask... after all, i do believe in the community and that's why i've been doing what i can to help for so long. if all else fails, i do have all the designs backed up... including the original forum, so all is not lost.
