Hey Everyone. I have been extremely careful with advertisers on my sites, since they are all children sites. I've turned down pretty much any offer. I got the following email below, and wanted to get your opinions on this type of advertising, although I just emailed them back and asked what kind of $$$$$ are they talking about. Please share your expertise with me.

Edit: They just emailed me they will pay $30 a month.

    Len,

ZTMC manages a network of advertisers that range from large corporate sites to kid friendly sites. Many types of advertisers are represented in the network, with the exception of adult sites and warez (hacker/pirated software) content. Again, no warez or adult site ads are displayed.

We would like to place 4 small text link ads on all pages of your site. You can see an example in the footer at www.flashdecompiler.com, www.phphelp.com, & www.programmersbank.com. Note that these ads rotate on a regular basis so if you click refresh a few times you may see different ads. Once the ads are live on all pages of your site lensaunders.com, payment would be sent, and then each month thereafter payment will be sent prior to your signup date. We use Paypal or Moneybooker for this. If this is acceptable let me know and we can proceed.

Please visit ZTMC.com and e-mail me with any questions or concerns you may have. I look forward to hearing from you.

    Thank you,

    Brandie

Well looks just like text link ads to me, which are fine and lots of people use. Plus you can put them anywhere and they can blend into the design without being annoying ads.

If I ever have ads on my sites, it would only be small text links like this, because I hate ads myself and these are the least annoying kind. And $30 a month is pretty decent.

The only concern you may have is your pr, and I'm not sure how much 3 links will affect you.

Google penalizes websites that sell links on their site without the rel="nofollow" code in the A tag. The rel=nofollow stops google sharing the PageRank, which is what the advertisers want you to do - help you get the sites up there at the same time as make your site suffer.

Trust me, I've been there - I went from a PR7 to a PR1 a couple of months ago. And only got back up by protesting to them.

If you have a high PageRank and want to keep it, don't touch these kinds of links with a bargepole, your pagerank is worth more than $30. The links on a couple of them sites that you said they provided aren't even XHTML valid.

I bet if you asked them if they'd have the links rel=nofollowed, they'd not be interested.

OK, good advice. I will pass on it. Glad I asked.

I say ignore Google if you want the cash. What sort of corporation punishes people for using a competitors adverts? It's immoral and if any other corporation did that sort of thing they would be in big trouble.

My PR dropped from 7 to 4 and I don't think it has made any difference to me whatsoever.

Now there's a business for someone!

$1 per url per year to have your url/link maintained on the official accrediation list

Make a script that trolls all the links for suss keywords or suss links done!

just watch out for a vicious circle like i had: one of my sites was pr6 when i signed up for text-link-ads. after a few weeks i had sold three link spaces. but then google did an update and my pagerank went down to three - and consequently i lost two of my three links. so the links drove down the pagerank, and then the link purchasors realised the site no longer had a medium pagerank and pulled out.

its better to put a page on your website 'advertise with us' than signing up for TLA. Sell banner ad slots with rel=nofollow. state the figures in the page like how many average visitors, page ranks & alexa ranking etc. if you don't want the website design to be messed up with gif animations and funny colors, you can even offer to design the banner
