Hey guys, dunno if any of you have noticed, but the latest template on OD bares a quite shocking resemblence to the beautifully designed blog of Veerle Pieters. Dunno whether you think this is cool or not, but I don't think its quite right to release a free template looking a lot like someone elses personally designed page. Unless of course they have consent. Or you might just think I am crazy!

It's not a copy. It might be inspired, but it's not identical.

Eh, it's a little too close for comfort in my book...

mdizzle: I agree. Backgrounds are changed only in colour, and only a little bit. If the user had cited the source of inspiration, or has Veerle's permission, then it would be cool... EDIT: note how my verb tense changes.

some clarity, Yes this template was inspired by the design of veerle pieters blog, and I do stand corrected I did not cite her properly in my css file that I had uploaded to the site. When I used topstyle pro to clean my css it removed a lot of my comments :/ and I am only just now realizing this. This was my mistake however I did not copy anything from her blog, the colors, are the EXACT same colors from MY previous template post, and I even have the color pallet saved in ColorImpact3 format if anyone would like to see. While my template and her blog have well, nothing in common other than they are three columns and .... thats about it. Anyways if people thats its too close then simple take it down. I and would be more than happy to re-upload the template with a properly cited css file. But again I don't think its all that similar.

When I saw that template, the first thing I thought was "I've seen this before, oooh i'm thinking of Veerle's site". So yeah, it is very similar IMO. We've debated the definition of inspiration before. This is not inspired. The colours are just changed, diff image at top and a few things have been removed. Inspiration is taking bits from a source (or several sources) to create something NEW. People shouldn't be able to look at it and think "I've seen this site already" (when they haven't).

Ok, I got a reply back: It is indeed inspired by my design but I think it is different enough. The owner changed enough elements to not bother me personally. It's ok to add it to opendesigns.org. Thanks for bringing this to my attention, I really appreciate it. Cheers, Veerle So no problems, subject can be dropped, and all is well in the world of opendesign's once again.. Thanks to... (theme music plays)Duh du DUUUHHHH.. DENIAL.. (/end music) hehehe... :bakie:

    - Non-Admin mode: "While my template and her blog have well, nothing in common other than they are three columns and .... thats about it." [..snip] Just some quick input, nothing in common? That made me giggle ;o) It's very inspired right down to the details such as the search input area, the navigation tab style, the contast (what i mean by that, the colour's may be different, but the contrast between them are very similar in both designs), it's left aligned but it has the exact same style with spacing from the left edge, and the bottom out of the main content, it is very similar. So to say your template has nothing in common apart from being 3 columns, thats amusing... - Admin Mode: Anyway, as for getting your design(s) removed, shoot me an email confirming your actions, and they will be removed from the site.

Look I am not gonna start debating this with you (which would surely turn into a flame war) as everyone seems to see it different judging from the comments on this thread.

I don't think they are that similar you do, blah blah blah etc.. so before this starts, can we just drop this?

Wow, someone's pissed over something retarded. I dont understand why Veerle said it was cool, and then everyone else said it was cool. And THEN you blew up. Dont wanna party with this guy...

jnewing: The nature of sites like this one is that they're copyright disputes all the time. You don't need to take it personally. Everyone said your design is OK, so everything is OK now. If you wish to have your designs removed, email an admin, and we will do so. Though we would be really sorry to see you go. Everyone: I am closing this thread to prevent this from becoming a major flame war. Just relax and enjoy a bakie :bakie:
