  1. Hey guys,
I have had the worst trouble with TV tuners so I say forget them. But my friend has this device, about the size of an older modem. It has a in and out for DVI and a coax in and axillary in. Basically its a switch to switch between using your monitor as a tv screen of the monitor for your computer. I have no idea what this is called and i was wondering if you guys knew. I wanna get this big CRT outta my room.

I don't really get what you mean. To use a computer monitor as a television you need a TV tuner card, otherwise it can't pick up the signal. If it's the other way around (use TV as a monitor) you won't need a special switch. Is the switch itself an external TV tuner card?

  3. See, i dont even know! haha. I need to look at it better. All i know is he runs the coax in and DVI out to a monitor and bam. Could htis be like and DV Cable box?

Yea sounds like an external TV tuner. It doesn't sound as though it connects to the computer in any way so you wouldn't be able to pause live TV or record anything which is a bit of a bummer. Does it have a brand name or model number on it anywhere that you can Google?
