I think you can personalize the look of sites with some firefox plugin or another. I don't use FF, but someone who does might know more.:bigsmile::confused::cool::cry::devil::sad::shamed::shocked::smile::surprised::tongue::wink:

I dont know, but this forum really needs that button. Apparently there isn't one yet, so we need to wait and hope for the best. Hopely sometime we adults can also read n write to this forum without obnoxious smilies.

I like smilies. They help to convey a mood or emotion and brighten the place up. ...and yes I am an adult.

Smilies are good, they're useful for what Ainslie suggested, but I guess an off switch (if simple enough to do) could be an option. But what really annoys me, is when people use "txt" talk on the internet, as a brief example: "Hopely sometime we adults can also read n write to this forum without obnoxious smilies." You have the space to write full words, yet you still have to say 'and' as 'n'. You won't be saving £0.10 on a text message if you go over the text limit on here you know  p.s. I'm an adult too... not that I act like one all that often

@Jen - Yeah I am, but 18 is officially classed as adult, same as in the US although you can't drink until your 21... America's such a stupid country at times...

I'm an adult too, though I guess a youngin' here (19 last November...) The crappy part is I didn't get to vote for our current president, yet he could still ship me off to war. I can't even walk in to a bar to get a decent drink to gripe about it either. To stay on topic: smilies are cool, but hey, if you want to shut them off, thats your personal opinion. I'm sure the option will get tacked on to that huge "To-Do" list the admins are currently shouldering. To tell you the truth, I might have to shut this one off too:

Heh, I didn't feel like an adult until I was getting woken up all night by crying. Something to do with feeling like the undead I think

Sounds like snop had many restless nights. But from what I can see his kids are going strong. "From your DS Lite photo"

You can vote for your president (and other officials), smoke cigarettes, legally have sexual "realtions" (and possibly become a parent), drive a car and die for your country....but you better not drink that alcoholic beverage....boy! back on track...I'm sure smiley control is a low priority on the admin list here. I searched the Vanilla forums and didn't see anything hinting at being able to do this for individual users.

Smilies? I've switched them off using the Adblock extention for Firefox. They are just annoying, but it didn't take more than four seconds to remove them all by adding a simple filter. I enjoy a Smiley-free forum, hooray!

@Sami, not everyone is that young... I'm probably the oldest member here and I like smilies too as Ainslie posted to convey emotions...

ya...arwen54 is well known for typing with her cane! :rolling: (j/k Karen) seriously though....i'm 33, in the middle of the age range here. There are a various group of people from different backgrounds, different countries, young and "oldish". Not everyone is going to like everything. Since there's not currently an options to disable smilies within the forum, try Andreas' suggestion.
