Questions on a light CMS

@tomw You PHP is awesome. I with I knew how to do that. I probably just need to learn OOP, not only to know how to do OOP but the methodology that ones goes through to logical solve a problem. Every programming language needs to be like PHP. Anywho, can you make a global variable for the templates (like {title} etc.) that is called admin or system or something so that I will be able to insert my code for the toolbox when some is logged in. Thanks. Also, if you look in test.php there are some php comments that I would like you read. Edit: I have been thinking and I think I will wait until you have gotten most of the features you want done in the CMS, so that I can do the UI when I know everything it needs to have.Posted 3 years ago #

Alec, thanks. OOP is not difficult to learn if you’re already know how to program. You just need to learn the syntax and organize your functions differently. Actually PHP is like C, which JavaScript is also borrowed from. I incorporated you toolbox into the themes but I’m having difficulty formatting the display the way Wolfram would like. Perhaps we could took into this and see how to correct them. Here is the demo page: http://odcms.ztml.org/alec/ Note: you have to login in order to see the toolbox.Posted 3 years ago #

@Wolfi - WOWZA !!! Very nice ... my one and only caveat would be that on the top horizontal navigation there be an option to have it right aligned instead of always left aligned ... mostly so that the navigation areas don't look too crowded/squished together. I like the changes to the tutorial area alot. One suggestion is to make the bottom bar (where the majority of the navigation is) less bright - whether you make it black or just a softer shade of gray or green. That shade of lime, while gorgeous, really hurts my eyes when I am trying to read the navigations .... maybe its just the slight snowblinded feeling I've had the last two days since the weather has gotten miserably cold and snowy here, but the lime green in that section is a little too much.
Perhaps down the road we can have a choice of stylesheet color themes for it - like a high contrast one, a more muted one, and a monochrome one that will also reflect the user's admin area ... a way to customize for someone's personal contrast/color choices? Its a nice-to-have feature for down the road, not neccessarily something that needs doing right now, and if you'd like I can play with some color schemes/css for you. Do you have the code available in a download or something so I can edit offline? Just the CSS I am a total php virgin.Posted 3 years ago # -
@XSQueen The stylesheets are just simple coded basic layouts. Call it a framework, if you want. They are starting points for your own designs. If you are familiar with CSS you can do whatever you want with them. BTW: There's a download link above with the ZIP of all designs. Download it, play with the designs and have fun. @Wolfie: Thanks .. I was thinking about the admin area CSS (I did download the three styles and will be playing with those, thank you ;) and the tutorial area ... basically the internal parts that are seperate from the actual design of whatever site is being hosted and maintained using OD"CMS. Does that make sense? BTW I have a little graphic for you ...Posted 3 years ago #

The admin area isn't finished until yet. Tom and Alec are still working on it. We'll do the final touches, when the guys are finished. PS: Which graphic?Posted 3 years ago #

@tom Thanks for incorporating the toolbox , I will work
I incorporated you toolbox into the themes but I’m having difficulty formatting the display the way Wolfram would like.
What does that mean? Also I set up a "change log" here http://odcms.basecamphq.com/projects/2612034/posts/17658243/comments. You must be logged in. @XSQueen, sorry spelled email wrong, email sent.Posted 3 years ago # -

@tom Are you still working on this? i learned PHP5 OOP and I like it better than PHP4 OOP, so I am working on my own cms (not based off of this one), but your code help me think of how I should program: in a clean, concise manner that works. I thank you very much and hope that you will continue this project, but I will stop working on it. I want to make my own CMS for two reasons: I want the all around experience and I want to make it just right for me. I'll still be available for the odds and ends if you really want me to though. @wfielder May I use your basic templates as sample templates for my cms, I can understand if you don't, but it would be nice . I had a great experience and bakies all around: :bakie::bakie::bakie::bakie::bakie::bakie::bakie::bakie::bakie::bakie::bakie::bakie::bakie::bakie::bakie::bakie::bakie::bakie::bakie::bakie::bakie::bakie:Posted 3 years ago #

I was going to post and ask how things are developing with this project. I am looking forward to trying it when it is done.Posted 3 years ago #

The project is moving along fine. I’m still going over all the core functions so that they will be stable enough for you guys to start adding your stuff. I just completed the tutorial functions. We can use that to document our development. As soon as possible I will post couple of notes there to explain the system in some detail so you can start using the system. Building your own system is a very good idea. This way you’re not only having full control and knowing the system very well but might create something unique from the rest of the CMSes. The system I’m building is not all totally new. It’s based on Ben’s Content Control and also I’m using your Toolbox for the administrative functions. ukmike, you can try out the system here. Login as guest (password=guest) will give you access to the administrative functions.Posted 3 years ago #

I'd say: It should be properly organized (i'm obssessive-compulive like that), easy on the eyes, and clean. I want to be able to know where to find things easily.
