  1. I launched a new site recently, called http://webdevnews.net . It's articles and news relating to web developers (Not quite as much for the designers, but I know there are plenty of developers here). It's community driven, and sponsored by my company (Xavisys). The advantage to having it sponsored is that we can better guarantee that articles will continue to flow even when the community input slows.

If you're a developer/writer, feel free to register and post an article. We are currently approving 2-3 per week, but may increase that number if enough are posted. For now though, even if we get flooded with articles, I doubt we'll publish more than one per day.

The site is brand new (the first article was posted about a month ago on 08/25/2008), and Google hasn't done a PageRank update since the launch, so your links won't have a huge PR yet. However, I'm confident that they will once the update occurs. The site has gotten plenty of attention (if you're a Drupal person, make sure to see the comments from Jeff Whatcott, Larry Garfield, and even Dries Buytaert in response to our article on http://webdevnews.net/2008/08/acquia-gets-ready-for-release-of-carbon-commercially-supported-drupal/ )

  2. The new PR Update that happened today helped. Web Dev News is now PR5 (along with 8-10 other pages on that site).

Nice. I think you need something to make the comments link stick out a little more though.

  4. The plan is to create a whole new design for it when we get time. Xavisys only has one designer, so he stays pretty busy. Maybe I should look into some touchups in the mean time?

As for WebDevNews, I think I'm going to structure it just like Attackr. You need at least 3 posts, one of them within the last month, to get added to the "Article Contributors" widget on the sidebar. Your link is pervasive across all pages, so you'll get some great SEO.

However, I'm going to extend a special offer to everyone here. Since Web Dev News is new, and no one here has articles on it yet, I'm reducing the minimum number of articles to one until January 4th. So, if you do one article a month from here on out, you can have a link to your site. The link displays using the display name field in WordPress, so you can even control the link text (which we all know is important with SEO). The system is automated, so as soon as your first post is published, your link will appear. Likewise, if you don't post again within a month, you link will disappear.

If you combine this with with Attackr, you can get some great SEO without doing anything except posting a couple articles a month!

@Aaron: That's a really good idea. Between WebDevNews and Attackr, if people put in a little effort, they will get a huge return for site exposure and SEO.
