    Hey out there.

I'm planning to do a reboot on my web site. I have been planning to focus a bit less on my portfolio for a while, and this night I came up with what I regard as my, by far, best design so far.

Check it out here. (I would recommend turning clear type on, it really really does a good job)

Let me know what you think of it. If you notice any rendering peculiarities please post a screen shot and tell me what browser and resolution your operating at. If you don't have the time for that, just describe the problem briefly.

    Thank you in advance.

I love the design! It's more 'adult' in a way :) Think the colors are great as well. Good job!

Your site is loading very, very slow - it takes minutes! And why do you have a .it domain (for Italy), when you're living in Denmark? Only for interest.

    Design looks good!

Johan, your design is neat! Are you thinking of having any hover effect on the links, though?

Yep, I'm curious about that too wink

    Thanks for your feedback.

I can see why you're wondering why I picked an Italian domain. It's pretty simple though. My national domain .dk was taken, .com and .net were taken too. The best one thats wasn't taken was the .it domain.

Many of you guys are a lot more into domains than average Joe. In my opinion Joe is more likely to associate the .it with information technology than with Italy. And that is quite good for me considering what I'm doing. bakie

I wouldn't recommend .it domains to anyone though. Unless you absolutely NEED to have the dot it, stay away! The Italian Government has to approve all applications and the process is very, very very slow. I guess it took me a month or more to get the domain.

Niemion - The reason the gov't has to approve all .it domains is because you're supposed to be an Italian citizen to register them. Just an fyi.

Posted By: janpd24Johan, in your links list, when you hover, the underline effect is slightly off in case of About and Contact. As in, it doesn't align with the text. I don't know if it's an Opera issue, though (using 9.2).

Thanks for letting me know. I'm going to fix this, as gnome says it is actually aligned with the hidden text but the spacing of the image text links seems to be a bit wider.

I have updated the splash and the sub pages.

I have optimized the graphics which put every sub page below 50kb.

Let me hear what you think and how fast it loads. Feel free to test out the contact form, would like to it seen in practise bakie

marks.gif - It includes transparency, although the dithering is pretty bad.
marks2.gif - Same bad dithering but with your background colour. (links removed)

Gimp is really confusing. Instead try www.getpaint.net

You can use gimp, it is supposedly the #1 editor above photoshop and paint shop, but the reason is it can do a lot. And therefore it takes a lot of time to figure out how to do it.

Microsoft Gif Animator, if you're running windows, is the best. It's very easy to use and understand (which is good since there isn't any help with it). It used to be packaged with Image Composer (another fairly decent propgram), but went to standalone freeware a while ago.
It's not supported though, and is available Here, among other places. Although it doesn't list XP as an OS, it does run on it with no problem.

The design is looking good, however I'm not a fan of the new window opening up when visiting the portfolio section. Personal preference is all.

I'm no fan either, but I think it's the only way to go. It seems weird when a link to an external site is opened in the same browser windows, so I always make it open in another window when it is something external. It would be different if I somehow made the portfolio a part of the current design at niemi.it

But let me hear, how many prefer not to have any new browser windows opened even when it's something external, like linking to google from here?

I've had this convo a few times recently, and basically I think all links should NOT open in a new window, and if they do, you should notify the user when the link is clicked it opens a new window. The user should have control over what the link does, ie if it opens in a new window or not. That's what the right click mouse button id for ;)
