I was doing my somewhat daily lurking around Digg (crashed firefox tabbing 20 stories :D) and found this. not only have I dealt with people like that, but I've BEEN a people like that :)
so on top of laughing at the list, share your bad client stories. -

I had some idiot ask for a design to be designed according to specific specs, ported to WordPress, and lots of extra features added.
When I showed him the mockup of the design, he loved it, and said go on.
I then ported the design to WordPress, and sent him a question regarding one of his specs. His reply was that he doesn't know how he'll handle that situation, and therefore, this being a key feature, doesn't see how the whole thing is possible. I replied with a few suggestions, but he wouldn't listen.
Now comes the interesting part. My site says I guarantee satisfaction, and he's not satisfied. I tried explaining that I did all the work, exactly as he asked me to, and I can't be blamed for him dropping the project.
The emails went back and fourth for a long time, and he's either a real idiot, or a liar. I think it'd be safer for the world if he's a liar. having someone that stupid in the world is really scary.
Since then, I've moved on to greater and better paying projects, but every time I remember this story, I go nuts. So, Mr. Ken Fong, should I post out email exchange here for the world to see? -

#8 - “Black on white is boring. How about hot pink on lime green? And can we make the logo spin? And Ariel is boring, let’s use Comic Sans.”
LOL I've seen too many of these type of sites (and have subsequently been blinded by them). #5 Applies to me...except I don't charge money.
I've never really had a bad client; I design/code sites mainly for friends and for fun. But they've made some pretty bad mistakes. They asked me to code something for them awhile ago, but I couldn't squeeze in time for it. So they paid someone else who *claimed* to possess knowledge of coding. The result looked well, but it didn't work well. The content area wouldn't stretch with the content. So they asked me for help again, sent me the whole site to see what was wrong. I was immediately suspicious when I opened up the whole site folder; there was only one image (the "coder" didn't slice the images of the graphic-intensive site), and the "coding" was generated by Adobe GoLive.

whoa so it was a gigantic image with text over it?!
my worst is a great guy, but he drives me nuts sometimes. I had set his site's font size to a nice, easy to read size of 12 pixels. But he wanted it smaller, so i shrunk it down to 11px. but he wanted it even smaller. so i set it down to 9px. but he wanted it EVEN smaller. o.o so now its 8px of hard-to-read.
then theres the guy I'm dealing with at work. basically he gave us (me and the php guy im working with) a basic roughdraft of the design and said there would be updates, but only to the colors and that there would be no structural changes to the site. so I spent a couple of hours turning this guy's PSD into a working page. then the next day we get "the" final version. looks COMPLETELY different. so I had to completely recode it. :/ -

I'm currently anticipating some problems with an old client I've been associated with since 1999, though it's not a web design client. Despite all they've done, I feel some loyalty to them, so all I will say is that it's sad when people sacrifice quality to make more money! -
