Hey everyone, we now have a working RSS feed which shows the last 10 designs.
Here is the link: http://www.opendesigns.org/design-feed/
I'll be adding it to the home page as well. -

Subscribed. Although should we go through Feedburner you think? Be interesting to see how often it gets used :) -

i think for now just keep it the way it is without feedburner... until the site gets a little more set... i have some nifty feedburner tracking code... and i already have google analytics tracking the site, so as we progress further, we'll have stats to show off :)
i also have server log files as well since i'm doing the hosting, so again, after things get going and the kinks worked out, stats will be available for the viewing. -

Very cool Sean. I'm sure the RSS feed has no correlation with the newest designs being put on attackr.com.

well mdizzle, we have some special sauce on attackr.com for the designs showing up... it's not just using a feed... and no i won't be sharing at this time how it's done... we need to get this new project going forward (which we are) and there are a lot of eyes on this project (some friendly and some not so friendly), so to protect the interest of the community and this project, some secrets of how things are being done won't be made public in the forums. We want to do things that will stand out from the crowd if you know what i mean?! -

They're several good rss plugins for WordPress, take a look at http://wp-plugins.net/ -

seanrox - It was a good idea to make the site more visable to the public. Anything we can do to help promote the site...
Your special sauce is better than mine, mine is only ketchup and mayonaise. It doesn't work really well on webpages, but I can sure make a mean burger

All information necessary to create the feature on Attackr.com displaying the latest links on opendesign.org is contained explicitly in the RSS feed, except the thumbnail, which address is implicitly in the information in the feed :-D All I am saying Sean, is don't be surprised if some of the evil people out there figure it out sooner rather than later. Especially given that I am a rookie at PHP. -

Ok, I'm having a hell of a time getting the thumbnails. Me and RSS has never gotten along. Some solutions anyone?
@sean: You planning on releasing some sort of script for everyone to use? To make our lifes easier.. and so I can stop feeling like a moron.. I just can't get the damn images.. DRIVING ME INSANE! I know it's something simple, and I'm just missing it... -

The thumbnails aren't part of the feed. you would need to write a script that would figure out the thumbmnail url based on the design url -

@jrochman: I wasn't saying it was hard to do, I was just making it seem mysterious... however like LobsterMan pointed out, we have other stuff for the image pulling, etc... again not a lot of major code but it's not just an RSS feed pull was my major point.
I guess if people actually thought it was a neat idea, it could be turned into a WordPress plugin maybe so others could display links to the recent designs from OpenDesigns.org on their sites with images. -

Yeah, I think thats a great idea. I may be coining a phrase, or I may have read it somewhere. But it would be viral marketing. I would also make a non wordpress way of doing it as well, maybe ajax, slide with top 5 or something similiar. ;) -

This would probably be a good start for an Ajax version:

The other thing to consider is images and server resources. Joe and I are actually in the works on solving this for a possible plugin to be used on other sites and not hammer the server. Just imagine 1,000's of people showing the recent designs on their site with images... so a caching solution or other ideas are being tossed around. -

Yeah I was looking at something. Gaping Void This grabs from a specific site the latest art or something, but it caches it on your server, and it's gpl'ed so it may be a good starting point, though this is only for rss, I was checking it out, haven;t had a chance to delve in, But I think it could work well with some hacking.... ;) -
