I know each site will have its own unique characteristics. But something that could be an improvement is some common terminology for naming some of the more standard divs used for layouts.
Any thoughts/suggestions? -

are you referring to the templates on this site, or just in general?
regardless, my thoughts:
i think that everyone has been aware of the importance of common naming conventions for a long time now, but regarding xhtml/css coding, there has been not much done. I believe there is a group trying to establish naming standards, but Im really not sure. I know that the group of developers have really developed common conventions for microformats, but no one has done much for xhtml/css conventions.
I think also, that with the explosion of Xhtml/CSS designs, it would be tough to get tons of people to follow the conventions, especially if they have been designing using there own favorite conventions. On top of that, there are tons of "Designers" that dont really understand web standards, but they are using "divs instead of tables" so they must know what they are doing. The toughest crowd to preach to about conventions would be these, that dont even differentiate between content/presentation, or dont care about semantics, etc etc. -

I was talking about xhtml/css coding. I didn't say it was going to be easy, but you've got to start somewhere.
This may or may not be the best place to try to organize an effort, but if we could at least get some of the designs that are posted out of here to work towards some standardization, then we'd at least be doing something more than just talking. Results require action... -

Hmmm, that is very interesting. I think that you could talk to the admins to setup some naming guidelines, but still the open nature of the submissions would mean only people who really care would follow the guidelines.
I think a site devoted to naming conventions in xhtml/css coding would be a good way to get ideas, and people interested in taking action together.
