Since I have no admin controls anymore at OWD and it was brought to my attention that Shay posted about me not following through, I did comment on the OWD thread but to make sure my comment stays intact, I'm posting it here too.
I am not looking to bash on OWD or stir the pot, I just want what I said to be seen by the community since most of everyone from OWD is now using OpenDesigns.org.
Here is whay Shay said:seanrox was given the contract (paid money for it $200 USD) to cover for integrating the database of the old forum to the new one, as he was the one to advise to do it, however after constant emailing him and getting different excuses, the work was never delivered, it's been almost 2 months now, If i don't hear anything from seanrox, I will be contracting the job to another vendor.
He also said:Seanrox has helped me greatly, he was great help and I must admit he is a great guy, and wants the betterment of the open design community as a whole, however we lately developed differences, the time for us to part had come due to circumstances that i don't want to discuss on a public forum.
Here's my comment:Thank you Shay for publicly supporting everything I've done to help the community, you and the OpenWebDesign.org website.
To clarify, yes I was hired by Shay to merge the old forum database with the new forum database.
We had some communication issues because people were allowed to use the new forum, it was changing the dynamic of the database merge. I needed a clean vbulletin database to do this so posts and comments ID's would move over.
Multiple times this happened. Well I finally got it done and emailed the file over to Shay, all 73.06 MB of it.
Apparently there was an email issue and Shay never received the file.
As of today, Shay and I are trying to work it out and I'm putting the file on my server for him to download since I no longer have access to any admin functions of OWD.
Once Shay receives the file, he will have someone else getting it online.
Good luck to everyone in the community.
Hopefully this will help clear any air that needs to be cleared. -

when moving from our temp forum to the new site, we moved from the vanilla user table to the wordpress one. the easiest way to get the user info over was to manually enter it again... -

Yes Joe, what we did for OD was easy - going from vanilla to vanilla. Try going from a custom forum to vbulletin - not so easy. -

It is good that things are being laid to rest now, but I gotta ask
why try and do this with 'live' forums, instead of migrating on a private server and then moving it back to OWD, or maybe just restrict access to the forum until it was ready?
Apologies if this isn't a sensible question to ask!
It's always a pain in the ass doing this kind of thing 'live', (not saying this is the case here because it won't apply to my example but,) we once implemented a new phone system during work time because the owner of the business didn't want to pay out of hours attention and he wasn't a friend or regular customer.
The first thing he said 'I don't want to lose any calls' so we routed incoming to his cellphone, 100+ call average per hour ;)
Cool that things like the contest prizes and the forum is sorted out!

It really shouldn't be done on a live forum and that's why I had asked Shay to lock the new forum while I did my work but people kept posting to it.
Anyway, if you have any other questions about OWD and the forum, direct them to Shay or to me off forum. Time to let this rest. I just wanted to inform the community what took place. -
