Everyone, snop was making a joke. Don't try this command and NO I did not tell him to do it. In theory, it will format/delete your hard drive.
P.S. this is getting off topic too... hehe... so... be nice...

Should we leave them in case they get revived?

leave 'em open, unless you see the sparks of a flame war. Make sure that if you close something, say why you closed it. -

Common sense says leave it open. Just because it was resolved for the original person, shouldn't mean you close it as you would be denying others the right to comment on the same subject.
If there's spam, delete it. If a thread starts into a complete flame war, close it.
As an example, you closed this thread, but why. If it was sorted, then it's sorted and the thread would have gone down of its own accord, the thread was causing zero problems open, so what was the point in closing it...
Once again with this thread that got closed, (not sure who closed it though), but I sat their for 10 minutes wondering why it was closed.... and found no reason for it to be. What happens if the thread starter (who did not get a valid solution for his problem on Windows 98) found a solution and wanted to let others know about it... then comes back and finds the thread closed... that would mean he has to start a new thread, causing a ton of duplicate threads, not needed.
Anyone see my point here? -

I think threads should only be closed if it's way out of line. If it has been answered great....BUT someone might have a better/easier/valid way of getting the same result
i know that in Sean's original post here that he said that mod duties will be to us soon. I have an idea, not original by any means.
When a thread is closed, the admin/mod who closed it should leave a post that states the following:
1.>State clearly that is being closed.
2.>State WHY it is being closed.
3.>Leave a link to the e-mail form here so they can be contacted if their are others who think the thread should be reopened.
4.>Leave a link to the "meet the board" page, so the user can reach another board members if need be.
example:
This thread has been CLOSED
Reason: Flame war (or other reason)
If you think this should be reopened, please send your reason to me here or contact one of the other board members -

I like that idea Bob, and it seems to cover the situation well with leaving contact details if people have a problem.
On a side note, could the person who closed this thread please explain why they decided to close it, thanks :) -

I closed my own thread because I don't need more people to comment it! I resolved it, there is no reason to bring it back up because it will only be clogging the new posts. What is the point if I don't need anymore help? I don't want anyone else contacting me. There really is no reason why anyone would comment the thread. Is it really that bad it was closed? If so, sorry...
I didn't close that other thread, even though I commented that he should start a new thread if he wanted comments on his design. The situation wasn't resolved, ergo the thread should still be open. Maybe someone took my thought a little too far?
If you really want to make sure everyone uses their moderator status correctly, then why not just state the rules? I'm sure everyone would abide by them if they were pegged down. People do have trouble following non-exsistant guidlines, however. -
