    It was brought to my attention from a loyal member of our community about a post over at OWD which made it sound like I didn't do something with the contest over at OWD.

    I posted a comment of a follow up email I sent to Shay and not knowing if it will be removed or not since we've seen that happen, I am posting the exact thing here so if the winners see it, they can contact Shay directly.

    Ok, here it is:

    Hi Shay,

    Here are 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners for the contest:

    1. My Favourite Book (by drd)
    2. The Hobbit (by arcsin)
    3. The Old Forest (by jaykay)

    You will need to contact them directly from their profile pages to get the proper paypal email addresses.

    @gnome: Finding and viewing the designs... that will be something to bring up with Shay or contact the designers directly, which is why I included the names of the designers too.

    Sorry I can't be of more help. I'm no longer helping with OWD as most already know.

    Gnome, and anyone else who is interested, two of them were released weeks ago, the other one in the top three I can't seem to find however.

    1. My favourite Book (anyone know a link for this? - it's not listed on the designer's site)

    2. The Hobbit

    3. The old Forest

    /* edit: apparently i type slowly */

    In the "happy days" of OWD someone gave a preview of a work about Dostoevsky's The Brothers Karamazov. Was this the number one?

    well, I saw the old forest a while back, and arcsin's design is beautiful too. now there is a design we all want to see, which was better than either (at least in the eyes of Seanrox and Andreas)... I guess I'll just wait until drd posts it.

    Maybe this community should take over the contest as it also has taken over about 80% of the community from OWD. In my opinion it will enrichen this community and make it the absolute nummber one.swingin

    We have plans for contests in the coming months but for now, we need to get some other things going, plus the OWD contest had some hefty prize money which OD doesn't have much in the way of donations to cover that kind of prize money... yet bakie

    @wundertype Brothers Karamazov was not the winning entry, though seeing #2 and 3 I can certainly see why.

    (Cabspace isn't working for me so that link might not work right now)

    "The Hobbit" is a pretty template, but the header brakes easily. this is what I see (normal text size, Firefox).

    A miracle has happened: Drd was on OWD forum and I posted a little teaser,
    hoping that OWD recovers and can payout his prize.
    "In the meantime come over to opendesigns.org. Everybody there is curious about your design." No wonder that it was censored and the URL was x-ed out. BUT NOW it seems he really got his prize money!

    @ brad: Brothers K. is a nice work. Just my taste. It came to my mind because because drds homepage also has these nice dark against bright colour combinations.

    @ Nelchee: Hobbit's CSS has "navigation ... serif;"
    In Camino and Safari it renders in serif and holds one line.
    I wonder why you have the space consuming Verdana for the nav.?

    Sorry I havent posted earlier I know everyone wants to see the designs etc, the comp has been going on for so long now too. Ive been busy with work and only just got back from college after work.

    Im not sure I deserve to win really, I thought the second and third place designs were probably better, but that's design for you, its a matter of opinion most of the time! :)

    Maybe some of you will agree with the choice, maybe not, but its been fun contributing to the contest. I dont think Ill enter anymore because I'm so busy with other work now, but I hope the contests continue to run as they produce so many great designs.

    Anyway, heres my entry:

    drd, I like it a lot. The first thing I always check with a design is how it 'breaks' when the text size is enlarged. Your's breaks nicely. I love the colors and the layout. I did notice that the hobbit template does not break well when the text is enlarged in IE and FF, although I also think it is a beautiful design. drd, great job, and well deserved.

    I see, he didn't specify a font family. Verdana is my default font (but now that you reminded me of this, I'll change it to Trebuchet).
    To leave the font face to user's choice on a non-flexible layout is not the best idea.

    @drd: congratulations, It's a beautiful design.

    Thanks for all the kind comments.

    NickyD, regarding the text increase, I always make sure the design can go up and down by at least 2 "levels" of adjustment in Firefox
