I'm not putting down anyones work here, but can someone tell me the reason (if any) for using an all black background with small text dark colored so that it is hard, if not impossible to see without highlighting it?

The example(s) I'm using are two of those on the home page right now.
Again...I don't intend this to be a put down of anyones work, just a question.

I think the answer is that some people like dark templates. Admittedly they're not always the easiest to read and are probably less popular than lighter templates but there is still a place for them.

At the end of the day you're free to make your own choice whether to download or not. bigsmile

ainslie is right, I think it all comes down to personal preference.

While I make a design that you may loathe someone else might think it's the best thing since sliced bread. The one thing I have learned as a designer is that peoples tastes very a LOT.

just modify the hex values, and it will be more readable.

So true, The designs that I like of my own, are usually the least downloaded, and the ones I think could use some work, people love. And sometimes, a dark on dark template just works for the type of site, I wouldn't want to go to a site for a metal band, and see bright yellows, and greens, on white. Just wouldn't work right.. yanno...

Also, as a designer, sometimes, you just want to do something different, and out of the ordinary.
