I have 3 blogs and two of them upgraded just fine. I used virtually the same procedure for all three. My third blog, http://bluestravels.com ran into an odd hiccup that may have fried the web site.

Of course I backed up everything and proceeded. The one thing I forgot to do before upgrading was deactivate plugins! My bad. That said, what follows seems unlikely to have been caused by that oversite. Still, you never know.

Once the uploading of all new 2.06 files was complete, I loaded "upgrade.php" in my brower and did the the upgrade. What happened next was very odd. When I went to my web site/blog it loaded a new theme called travelogue 2.0, even thought travelogue 1.03 was selected in the theme switcher.

I tried everything I new to switch themes, but no matter what I did WP keep displaying this TL2.0 theme, which is represented by wp-tl2 in my database.

After nearly 8 attempts, I finally was able to get my old theme to load, the old theme you see now. "Whew", I thought. I figured all was well. Still, I decided to do a wipe of my old database just to be on the safe side, followed by an import of my most recent backup via phpadmin. That went swimmingly. I then went to my new, succesfully imported DB and deleted the wp-tl2 data field, since that seemed to be creating my troubles (or so I thought).

I deleted the TL 2.0 theme from my themes folder.

I then went back to admin, and all my entries were there as before. Yet, no matter what I did, I was unable to toggle themes. And that is where things stand now. Eeeeeeek!shocked

I am wondering if there is a datafield that handles information on themes that I need to drop.

Has anyone encountered anything like this before in their blogging experience?

    Thanks

Similar, when using the theme switcher widget. Probably way off the mark but I just deleted the widget and everything worked fine.

could be because you didnt deactivate the plugins, either that or are you using a theme switcher plugin at all?

    Hi guys.

I guess great minds do think alike.

I just came back from my blues blog while you guys were typing. I just finished having looked over all my plugins, and I began deactivating theme, starting with......MY THEME SWITCHER PLUGIN. LOL

And that was the cause of my troubles. Seems like it is somehow incompatible with 2.06. My blog is working fine now.

The upgrade from 2.0.5 to 2.0.6 doesn't have any database changes. Only core files.

    Could be a plugin issue.

That would be a good idea 4evrblu but I can confirm 100% that the upgrade from wordpress 2.0.5 to 2.0.6 does not mess with anything in the database.

I cheated..I didn't do a full upgrade because I was too busy at the time..I did overwrite "templates.php" in the admin directory though as someone mentioned in another thread that's where the security issue was.

anyway...my biggest problem is still the huge amount of spam I get even with having both Akismet and Bad Behaviour installed. Any suggestions of what else I can do?

Speaking of spam... I opened my inbox this morning to find over 200 unread messages!! They were nearly all complete spam, undelivered mail reports, looks like someone is using my server to send out a ton of spam from sad Hopefully should be fixed within a day though!!

@arwen54: Bad Behavior was updated a couple days ago, so grab the latest version.

When you say you're getting a huge amount of spam, is it comment spam or just email spam?

Are you sure it was being sent from your server, or were you a victim of "BackScatter"?

I check in on plugins I have installed weekly for updates.

nope wasn't sure whatsoever if i'm honest, thats why i said "if i get no more spam, then i guess it was a p/w breach" but it seems i'm still getting the undeliverable mail reports even after all passwords have been changed, so now for some advice, how would i go about stopping the backscatter if thats what i'm getting? i really have no clue, thanks in advance, and sorry for taking this thread way off topic :o)
