I imagine we'll be seeing template rating and highest rated template/most downloaded template lists soon. At one point there was a list of these things somewhere. . .

It's only been a little over a month since this site went live... what more are you expecting to be brought in so quickly?

So far we have a thriving community and a site, with a fantastic design from snop, which has now been fully intergrated with a brilliant forum, the backend is being constantly worked on to improve it, the whole design upload/editing feature, the list goes on. What has been accomplished in such a short space of time is absolutely amazing.

There was (read: is), like aanimo mentioned, a thread listing what was going to be coming and what people wanted. A few of the items off the top of my head were being able to comment on designs, rating for the designs, finalising the backend ready for moderators, and so forth.

I think commenting on and rating designs should be considered a necessity.

Christopher, Sean and Joe....when you get some spare time do you mind coming to New York and helping me install my laminate flooring too? You're not doing enough! wink

Really though, comments and ratings are a great idea. I know they are also working on getting moderator access set up as well. Give it some more time folks. Great things have been done in a short period of time and I'm sure there are more great things to come. Nice work gents.

no i know, but someone suggesting/asking if/are their going to be any more big improvements next, sounds like they may have a few of their own, so it was meant as a question to see what Pete wanted/expected to be here as well as what is coming. (did that sentence make sense? *shrugs*)

@Bob, i'll gladly come to NYC! now whether or not i help install any flooring is another matter... ;)

/* edit: on a completely unrelated note, we now have 250 approved designs! */

The next on my to-do list is a move advanced search/filtering and design rating.
As for more big features, we've been discussing a few great ideas, but nothing's final yet, so I won't make any announcements yet.
  1.
I think that OD should have a list of the most recent posts that each user has commented on, perhaps in each user's admin page, kind of like on the SitePoint forums. It helps to follow up on specific threads that you're interested in. (Picture below)

I don't know how hard this is to do with Wordpress/Vanilla, and I know that you admins have a lot on your hands right now, but I was just wondering what you thought of this idea.

@perthmetro: I suggest just sitting back and relaxing a bit. Every day something is happening with the site, either on the front end or the backend.

We can't possibly detail every little thing going on or what minor thing we've fixed or added but when something note worthy happens, usually Lobsterman, Christopher or myself will post something to bring everyone up to speed.

I hope that helps you feel a little better.

Questions are always welcome, so don't be afraid to ask but maybe in the future, try contacting an admin off forum. We don't bite... well not hard anyway :)

@perthmetro: I really do think you need to relax a bit. Your tone seems to be very angry... and why? You asked a question, you got multiple answers from members and admins.

I even replied with "Questions are always welcome, so don't be afraid to ask but maybe in the future, try contacting an admin off forum" so yeah, it's fine to ask questions and if you don't get the answer you were expecting, contact a site admin.

I think that's pretty simple and no reason to get upset... and now I'm going to relax boogie

Pete, if you had a problem with my reply, which by the sounds of it you did, contact me personally off forum, or contact another admin (Sean / Joe) and have a word with them if you don't want to talk directly to me. I don't honestly think Sean was publicly berating you either, let me try and put something really simple here...

This site is evolving day by day, if anything happens, the forum is the first place we (admins) announce things. If something happens, be it a donation for the site, or fixing something as simple as the screenshot display sizes, you can be assured it will be documented in the forum when it happens or before it happens.

A lot of additions also start out as a forum comment, be it someone mentions a bug, so it get's added to a list to sort, or be it a suggestion, and everyone discusses it and dependent on reactions that determines if its good / bad. One major item which is yet to have the details publicly disclosed is Sean's ace (don't you love teasing people wink), which he will annouce once the moderator voting has finished next Tuesday (16th Jan '07).

But anyway, let's all chill out and have a cookie cookie

Posted By: perthmetroSeanrox, instead of berating me publically, can you please try to practice what you preach and correspond with me privately.

I did not "berate" you and I really don't have anything against you. I've spent close to 30 minutes going over my comments to you, I've had multiple people from different parts of the world look them over to see if maybe I was off base or if I "berated" you. The answer was no.

If you honestly feel I did, let me publicly apologize to you right now.

I never set out to make someone upset. Sometimes it happens and there are times people upset me. It's life I guess but again, I apologize if I said something that you considered me scolding you.

I see no need to contact you in private at this time but if you don't agree, you can as mentioned multiple times before, contact me. I always reply to emails and I am a very fair person.

@arwen54: As I mentioned in a thread last night and Christopher mentioned in his recent comment here, the voting for moderators ends on January 16, 2007 (next Tuesday) and after that, I will be making an official announcement on my ace for us all.

I've just been waiting for us to get more settled with the site and for people to update their profiles. The site is just over a month old, so people are still getting settled with profile settings, etc.

    It's worth the wait.

Also, you're correct, myself, Joe and Christopher have nothing but the site and communities best interest in mind when we do things around here.

    Thanks for your continued support.

He doesn't sound angry at all to me... That's the internet for you (as perthmetro said).

From where i'm sitting, he just asked a simple question and got the whole "well what do you expect you impatient so and so?" kinda attitude. He then tried to explain that he wasn't being impatient/pushy but still got "stop being moody, go relax" messages.

I'm surprised he didn't get moody after all that to be honest... People telling me i need to chill when i'm perfectly fine, would irritate me.

I totally understand his point of view... this kinda proves you can't ask a sincere question about the progress of the site, without people assuming you're being arsey (when you're not).

But on a more positive note... that's good news about the SEO smile

@JJenZz: I publicly apologized to him as seen above and I also sent him a personal email.

As I said as well as others, he got multiple answers from admins and members. There is no reason to get upset.

Posted By: perthmetroTime for those deep breaths again before we answer maybe? I'm not concerned or worried, just curious, thats all.

perthmetro made the suggestion himself as seen above to "take deep breaths" which in my opinion means to relax.

Questions are fine but my main issue I guess is a lot of people are asking the same question "what's next for the site" and we keep answering it over and over again, so why don't people take a moment, search the forums and maybe find the question already being answered?

We even have a forum category titled Site Specific where we post what's going on with the site.

We even do blog posts on the home page.

The 3 of us admins are really good about letting people know what's up. I know for one that I do a lot of posts about this sort of thing.

In the end, if our aussie friend was upset, he should be fine now, I apologized in the forum and also sent him an email. If there are any other issues unresolved with this, he knows to contact me so we can work it out.

The site is about fun and community, not getting all upset.

Sean, obviously you are not a politician. If you were then you would have no problem of answering the same questions over and over again and it would sound like you just said it the first time. Also you would not make a good diplomat. Otherwise you would make it looks like your were patting someone's back while your were actually kicking his a**. But you are a remarkable administrator here and how can we ask you for more?

Hi tomw. Indeed I'm not a politician but as far as answering the same questions over and over, the idea behind a forum, this one and others is to be a useful resource. His questions got answered, multiple times from multiple admins.

Other forums, including the official WordPress forum to just name one say things like "before you post a question, check the forums as it might have already been answered".

That's my point. We are working on making the forum useful and hopefully not filled with repeat questions or answers, which is the reason I made a category for site specific stuff in regards to what is happening with the site as a whole.

If we need more categories, we can add them.

I think some of the WordPress forum rules should be added to our rules... but once moderators are in place, I won't have to always be "the bad guy" so to speak.

Again, I say things without much sugar coating, so you're right, I won't ever be a politician and maybe never a diplomat.

I do fine with admin work as you and others have seen and commented on... part of that reason is because I'm straight forward and actually do take some time in my replies in comments and in emails when I receive them and I'm also more then fair when dealing with various issues and people. I really try to communicate with people.

Ok... now time for some bakies bakie
