    I started a site this year, for fun, nflpowerranks. Even in a short few months, I've built a good Alexa ranking (<400,000), have 2-3,000 monthly visitors, and a decent search ranking (page 2 on Yahoo for "nfl power rankings") nevermind, looks like it took a dive this week. I've had fun with it, but I don't think I can keep it up. So I'm thinking about selling.

    First, anybody interested?

    Second, how would you (or have you) gone about selling a whole website? There's got to be a good forum out there just for this, but google's not helping me find it.

    I believe that Niemion was saying that the SitePoint Marketplace is mostly just spam.

    I've used Sedo.com and was an easy transaction. They have a good escrow policy, the customer pays Sedo, you transfer the domain/website, when the customer gets product Sedo makes the payment to you. They have a 10% commission so keep that in mind when pricing.
    From the time buyer made the payment I had the money in about a week. Whole transaction went smooth.

    @squirrel

    Thanks for the info. I'm guessing you negotiate price with the buyer? Were you pleased with what you got?

    Yes I was happy with what I got. I chose the for sale option and when the right offer came in I negotiated and accepted an offer I was satisfied with. If you are looking to sell it with in a specified time frame this may be challenging as you have to wait for or solicit offers. The auction would likely sell quickly, but you have to accept the highest bid.

    Yes, they have a for sale option and an auction option.
    With the auction you have to sell at the highest bid.
    With the for sale option you can set a minimum offer and you only have to sell once you accept an offer.

    from their website:
    Once you have specified a minimum offer, all offers which do not match or exceed this amount will be automatically rejected by the system. Prospective buyers are then encouraged to make a higher bid.
    If the 'fixed price' option has been selected, entering a minimum offer will not be possible.

    actually, sitepoint marketplace, and digitalpoint are very good places to sell stuff, if you can ignore all the spam...digitalpoint gives me a lot of traffic because I go in there and help people.

    So don't discount those forums if you want to sell your site.

    keep in mind that domain brokers, like Sedo.com take their cut. So price your site accordingly if you do decide to go that route.
