I am working up a design for my close friend's site. It is probably the most complex design I have ever done. His current site is http://factfanatic.com and mine is at http://indyteentalk.com/ff.
Warning: It will load slow. It almost 3mb in total last I checked. Also, I haven't tested it IE6 most because I use a TON of alpha transparency, so I will cross that bridge later. ( can't wait for 3.1)
Any comments: positive, negative, improvements and IE rants. -

First Post!
Here is my rant:
*add bottom and right margins on the news post-it
*the "cut away" looks like crap
*Categories, add a bottom margin

for a basic idea. (some photoshop required)
If that doesn't help, you could do a peel away?

I like it a lot. I think it would be fun to break up the body and header even more by haveing notebook paper be the body, witha i little bit of a wrinkle, fade and tilt. thats just me. Kinda breaks up the paper bag feel -

very nice. not sure about the contrast between the text and the background colour - the readability is fine for me, but older users or people who wear glasses might have problems. also the subhead seems a bit too insignificant imo. -

Contrast could be better (fade the brown paper a little?) and it breaks horribly in i.e.6 but otherwise the redesign is much nicer than the original! ;) -

It doesn't break horribly in IE6. It just doesn't show PNG transparency as Alec mentioned.

@Wolfi :) My bad ... since I have no choice in using i.e.6 (work dictates what I can and cannot have on my desktop - ewwww!) and since I almost never use PNGs when given the choice, its not something that occurs to me. I just notice that there is a big break in the body of the screen in i.e.6 ;) BTW need your email addie so I can send you a screenshot for the CMS -

I like the design. Very unique to me.
Anybody know the name of the white font in the header. Pretty cool. -

Looks great! Your old design is password protected though. -

I think you can do better on the optimization front. It is one of the slowest loading designs I've seen. meta.png (as an example) should be about 2% of it's current size. Please use .gif and .jpg instead of .png for everything. The page background could also be much smaller. It looks fantastic, but it doesn't have to be so bandwidth intensive. -

@gnome and everyone:
I am aware of the size issues, it is because I am using a layered Fireworks png (like a PSD, but PNG so it can be easily displayed), simply saving it flattened cuts the by one fifth, but since i want to keep editing it until I finish the design, they are layered. -
