google chrome
good or bad? :) I think my opinion on it will depend on how it transforms CSS ... Actually I was glad that Netscape was gone .. one browser less to take care off. Now a new one ... again ! -

I think we'll have to give it a go and see how it compares.
My only issue is where do you download it from? -

I believe it is being beta released today so it might not be available quite yet. Sounds like a nice browser to me. -

I think it will probably be very simple, similar to the Google homepage.
Not bloated with features as it sometimes feels like Firefox is.
It's core will no doubt be integration with Google's other products such as gmail, calendar, checkout (if it every gets sorted out), office (forget its actual name), youtube etc. So if you're a google fanboy it'll be great, if not, it might make you one, or you might leave it well enough alone.
Personally i'd love a basic browser, that just displayed my page and nothing more. Speed and simplicity over everything. -

They have a comic about chrome that explains a lot of what they've done. It sounds great in the comic, time will tell though.
I'm looking forward to taking it for a test drive. -

I am glad that they are releasing it (and it's components) into the open source community. At least now we can start the discussion about standards among all of the design elements. Sounds like the guys over at IE, Firefox, Safari, and all the other browser groups have a lot of reverse engineering to do. -

Been playing with it a little. It's more impressive than I expected the first beta to be.
There's some basic info (pre-release) here: http://webdevnews.net/2008/09/google-chrome-browser-set-to-release/
And some additional info here: http://www.google.com/chrome/intl/en/features.html -

I'm making this post using Google Chrome. I believe this will be a huge advance in the Internet. It's simple, quick and intuitive. I've checked out all of my websites and about 20 design templates on OD and they all look great. So if it works in Firefox, it will probably work in Chrome. The one thing that will keep me using it over firefox are extensions. Ironically, I mostly want the Google Toolbar Extension so I can quickly check a site's pagerank. This is the beta, so I'm sure they will be releasing more features in time. -

Some super small things aren't working for me, but I've been really impressed so far by the features and speed.
* Mouse back button no longer works
* My WP 2.6 install doesn't realize that Google Gears is available. -

It Uses the WebKit Rendering engine as does safari so all pages that display correctly in safari will display the same way in chrome. So no need to worry about another browser to optimize for. I'm awaiting the Mac release. But as with othere google products i suspect this will be in beta for a long time. -

So far, I love it. The only thing that has got me still using Firefox are the addons and skins... though I like the default Google skin. If some of the major addons I use are transferred to Chrome... or if something similar pops up, I will probably switch. -

I freaking love it. Using my Crap-Tek 2000 Laptop, it parses JS like butter on sites that make my FF gag.
Needs pluging but I can be patient. -

This is amazing, and its actually fun to watch pages load for once.
However, OD still loads slowly

Like some other people said, until adblock then I won't use. I like seeing the web as it was supposed to be seen without all these google ads and banners that are ugly.
Not to say all ads look bad, but most sites suck at fitting them in to the layout. -

Here allow me to explain.
Good ads:
http://www.smashingmagazine.com/ (right side small banners)
http://www.highresolutiontextures.com/
And any 125x125 for that matter
----
Bad ads:
http://www.technorati.com/
Any site with a banner in the header, clearly doesn't care about their header/logo.
Google ads
----
Let me put it to you this way, ads need good design too. They need to fit smooth into the layout. I love these new small 125x125 type ones, they just work well.
Css applies to ads too. Pretty much all the google ads I have seen, do not work with site's layouts. They just don't.
----
If the ads weren't so ugly and badly integrated into the layout so many people would not be blocking them.
And as far as "supporting web sites" the only way you could support a website is by clicking on those ads. That's the only difference. If I want to do that on purpose I will disable adblock and click away.
But I'm far beyond clicking advertisements. Any tech user with average experience by now should not be clicking ads on web sites randomly.
HOWEVER. If it is for a design related site/inspiration and not some commercial interest I may look. Where are these ads you may ask? 125x125.
This is just a rant. /rant/ -

I'm deeply impressed and immediately fell in love with it. Fast und small. Plug-ins like in FF and this browser will rule the world. The guys at Microsoft must have some sleepless nights now... -

Google chrome is simply superb. I am loving it, especially the extra room to view pages, without title-bar and menu-bar :) -

I think it's fantastic.
I have a few problems on one site though. Seems like no real reason, when looking at the source, it's stopping right after a table cell & on another page it's stopping in the middle of javascript. Displays fine in Safari though (both built on WebKit).
A few fixes & adding extensions (add-ons, plug-in....etc) & I think this will be the browser to beat. -

my only problem with it is that the tabs are bumped up on top of the title bar. its kind of weird and I keep pulling Rocket Dock down when I put my mouse up there to click. -

You can train RD to be a little more sluggish, to counteract that problem. I have because on a couple programs I freak a bit without the Rocket dock -

It was only released a day ago so i dont know. i guess we'll find out. as far as spyware and adware it is secure because they basically lock down all priviages to the minimal for the browser. -

Once it has NoScript and AdBlock functionality I think it will go miles. Internet Explorer just got another huge blow to the gut with this and it's just an early beta.
I am shocked at how they haven't shoved all their other services down your throat as you're using it.
Edit:
One more thing I would like is a spell checker. I absolutely abuse this feature in Firefox. -

There are reports that say that there are security flaws due to Chrome using an old version of webkit:
http://www.readwriteweb.com/archives/security_flaw_in_google_chrome.php
In a speed test however Chrome beats all other browsers:

All I have to say is...it's FAST. Everything else will eventually work itself out (Once the start allowing plugins, etc). -
