Was approached by an interior designer/decorator to "redo" their old site (http://www.bytnerdesign.com/) in a barter deal (I would get my house Feng-Shui'd ;) and since I am also trying to broaden my portfolio as well (most of my daily work is on an intranet and no one but fellow co-workers see it) I agreed to the trade... What I am looking for is some feedback and perhaps a few ideas. The bottom section will probably be a photo gallery (the three small boxes) of past projects and the site will be relatively small (10 pages max) but I would like to make it fit her new direction of "green" design, with Shabby Chic, recycling, and all that .. at the same time she is a "higher end" designer so would rather go with an elegant look much more than country kitch. Ok, I have babbled too much .. feedback? Ideas? gripes? Thanks! Its just a screenshot and has NOT been cut or coded yet ... -

Overall, it's a great design. I like the little flourishes on the sides, will they be used to scroll through the photo gallery?
The only area for improvement that I can see, design-wise, is the ellipse in the top. It just seems a little plain to me, maybe some effects with the black border would help. A subtle gradient, or a little bit of "pop" would help a lot. -

I agree with acousticsam that it's lovely but that the top needs a little zing - the ornaments at the bottom of the page are so pretty, maybe a smaller version of those at each side of the shape or in the rounded rectangle underneath?
Am very jealous at the barter, would love to get my house feng shui'd! -

I agree with them too, flourishes around the header would look great. Acousticsam's idea to use the bottom flourishes to navigate the photo gallery is great.
Maybe it's just my bad eyesight, but I don't think the main navigation stands out enough. -

@Acousticsam: Actually the ellipse is going to have the BDA Bytner design Associates logo/text in there with "kitchens" & "Interiors" in the two little boxes on the sides .... the menu is a little hard to read in "miniature" format but pops more when in full size .. and yes, the flourishes will be used for lateral navigation ;)
@Daisy: I am actually working on a leaf shaped flourish for the ellipse bottom but haven't been too happy with what I managed to come up with so far ... will post when its closer to the finished product. .. are you in US or UK? Have you ever gone on craigslist.org? I've gotten a couple of cool barter offers on there. Cash is better but harder to come by ;)
@Zanzi ... I was going for a fairly subtle look for the site/navigation. we'll see what the client says .. my initial design was black white and pale lime, and she wanted a much softer look. If you check out her original site, it was not very soft and that is what she told me was her business image ... guess she is redoing her biz image now too ;)
