I am not a REAL life web designer - just a hack for our club (http://www.mgpmrc.org).
I am interested in learning CSS. I am also looking to learn something more than
FrontPage. YES, I prefer a visual editor. Thanks for any suggestions.

I use Visual Web Developer for all my coding, designing, and interactive stuff. I find it to be quite excellent. It's free (as in beer), and has great features like intellisense. Admittedly, it's Microsoft; but I happen to love ASP.Net. I find that I can get so much more done in less time. Server Controls rock.
I tend not to use the visual part of it at all, but the development web server is great, and the intellisense can't be beat (even for CSS). -

I'm a MacHead, so TextMate is my weapon of choice for all code, from SQL to CSS.

I use PS PAD for code, and photoshop for graphics, I don't trust the wysiwyg editors, not enough control, and they tend to ad useless extra code. :) -

I use Web Design 2.8, Text Edit, Adobe Image Ready (Until I can get Adobe's big boy), Fetch (FTP client), a full compliment of browsers.
that's about it. -

in an attempt to get away from using dreamweaver, I've been trying out Aptana for code editing (and instantly viewing my work w/ it being a WYSIWYG). its pretty good i guess. It'll take some getting used to.
so i guess heres all of what i use
Design- dreamweaver/aptana/notepad
graphic- fireworks 8, PSCS2
browser- FF2/Opera (depends on my mood)
FTP- FileZilla -

I use BBEdit for coding (it has syntax coloring and advanced options for XHTML, CSS and PHP), Transmit for FTP (It tends to time out if left inactive, but it's the best out there IMO) And Fireworks for opening PSD's and saving parts of images for the web (I get totally lost in PS) For browsing I use Safari, and have Firefox for testing purposes.
All of this on Mac OS X 10.4 of course. I also have a PC 'in the closet', for IE testing only. -

Yep, it's gotten a lot better. I basically dumped Fetch a year ago for lack of SFTP (and for the fact of CyberDuck being free). It's never crashed on me, and at work it has never timed out. However, at home with cable it does time out sometimes.

I use CyberDuck... Lobster's right, it definitely used to be buggy. It times out for me a lot, even though I have T3. I do like the price tag, though...

notepad ++ and my host has a built in FTP (bluehost). I do have Frontpage 2003 but it seems to add a lot of junk. I also have Nvu but don't use it much. I also have been trying out Stylemaster 4.6 for a CSS editor and it even has WYSIWYG but it is new and a little intimidating at the moment. For Grafics I mostly use paint shop pro 10. and I also have photoshop elements 3. And Adobe fireworks 9.0 beta 3. (still learning with it) But the very best tool I have is...da, da dahhh. OpenDesigns.org. And no I'm not just blowing smoke... It truly is my best tool. Thanks...

Transmit (ftp), Photoshop, and the keyboard (TextEdit or Notepad). I liked HomeSite when I was on a PC full time.
I am tired of writing code by hand, so WordPress and Drupal have me by the nuts. Its a real love/hate process. -
