bleh, this is what i coded so far.
OD site
I have no idea what it looks like in IE6. Only did testing in IE 7, Firefox and Safari. About 60% done. Last night I wasn't liking it but decided to go through with the rest of the design to see what came of it. the graphics could use some sprucing. I hate the headers in the right column. I'm going to redo them tonight. Any thoughts? Should I junk it and start from scratch? I really wish I had a logo to work with, hint hint, nudge nudge! -

I would keep the images for the sidebar headers. -

Outsider: ZOMG! a design just works in IE6. No tweaking needed to get the 'temperamental' browser to display it properly. Good Job. -

The only thing I don't care for, is the using font images, I'm not a big fan, and I think it would look better with Just using a nice maybe rounded corner background, and no font images... Otherwise, It's the freakin' bakie &trade YO! -

One reason I went for a non-flashy grey/white design was i wanted the color details and the templates to catch people's attention and draw their eyes to those elements. -

Glad to see my draft has been well met! I will try to develop it further over the weekend and throw my design into the melting pot.
@Christopher: Haha, I forgot to say, ignore the logo, it's just a place holder for now. I was gonna have a play around with the idea of an opening package, but kinda moved onto the design of the template and left the logo in its larval state :D -

I am busy right now with other things, so I will not be able to participate in the OD-design contest. Would have loved to submit a design, though!!!!! Will OD keep the chosen design permanently, or will it have a policy where a new OD site design contest is made yearly or every other year? That idea just popped up into my head. Probably a bad idea, or what do others think?
Edit: Advantage could be that the site keeps staying fresh and making a dynamic impression, disadvantage that the wordpress theme must be recoded for each change and the visitor recognition effect would get lost when changed too often.
Keep designing guys, great jobs done around here ...

Hey guys, thanks for all the positive comments.
Just letting you know I've updated the home page mock up a bit and drawn up a draft for a template page. (Again, replace logo place holders with winning logo).
With regards to the coding, must all entries be coded? I'm thinking it would surely make sense to code the winning design to save time. If however entries must be coded, might I ask if any of the coders here would be interested in doing mine? I understand if not, but I don't think I will have time to code the pages as well :-( -

Why not have the entire community vote to select the best designs, then have a select few make the final judgement? -

I believe we discussed having 3 judges... famous design people to be the judges...
The voting process takes a ton of time, especially with a lot of submissions, so to have the entire community vote on every design could take months... we don't want to wait months for the new design to be selected... we have a lot of back end stuff to integrate and pending on which design is picked will also decide what features we are working on will get worked into the new design.
My thoughts are having the 3 judges (to be determined) vote on the designs, pick the top 3 or 4 they like, then have a poll with the community voting on the final selections.
Thoughts? -
