I suggest to 301 redirect opendesigns.org to www.opendesigns.org, or the other way around.
Some say it helps PR-wise some say it doesn't, either way you put it's best practice to do so.

I prefer not using www. when canonicalizing urls.
Sure it's good practice but it's really not completely necessary.. -

Google is expected to follow best practices when it comes to SEO, that's why they are #1 on a Google search for "search the internet".

Now why would you not follow best practice just because it's not completely necessary? The nice layout of that site of yours, is it strictly necessary?

this is the best explanation i found regarding bare domain urls:
"By default, this is the correct behavior. Using URLs of the form http://mydomain.com/ creates a number of problems, and we strongly recommend that you avoid it. Some of the limitations are:
* It creates noncanonical URLs for your site. It is highly desirable to have one URL for each page, for purposes of bookmarking, etc. Having multiple valid URLs for the same page makes your site look less popular, both in rankings and search engines.
* It is less reliable. DNS CNAME records cannot be used in this situation. You can put in a couple of A records, but this is still not as effective for load balancing and fault tolerance as doing it the "right" way.
* It becomes hopelessly confusing if you have (or might ever have) more than one web site under the domain. (Which site does mydomain.com refer to?)
* One name should do one thing. Bare domain names already serve the purpose of organizing the domain, and often they do email duty as well (mail.mydomain.com). Web traffic is better kept in its own box. This aids filtering, debugging, and compartmentalizing services." -

This is already in place. If you go to opendesigns.org it does a 301 redirect to www.opendesigns.org
I've been on top of most of the SEO for OD since day one. We have an awesome rank and things are in place properly and within Google webmaster guidelines. -

That's weird, I tested yesterday and I could access both www and non-www.
Either way, it doesn't redirect sub pages like this forum discussion.

Not quite sure why Vanilla isn't listening to the rules I have in the .htaccess file.
It does seem Vanilla has a bunch of custom rules as well, so maybe something is colliding?
I'll look into it, however as I mentioned the main URL is working fine with the 301 redirect. -
