Just curious if anyone has any ideas on how to get out of a slump, not really a block, but everything I have done latelly seems cookie cutter, and just boring. I can't seem to break out of it.

    Ideas?

You could try looking around the web for some inspirations. If you can, try to take your mind of making designs for a few days. Something will come to you.

Yeah, I have looked around, cssremix, and the like. And I have been in a slump for a couple of weeks. :) But thanks for the advice. Keep it coming, I'm sure we all could use it at some point.

    :)

When I need inspiration, I visit the following sites:

    http://moluv.com/
    http://www.coolhomepages.com/
    http://www.lookom.com/
    http://styleboost.com/

That should get you started. Let me know if you would like more recommendations.

Personally, all I need to do for inspiration is look at my dwindling bank account. 5 minutes of that torture and then I am a creative maniac. Or at least a maniac. Sometimes panic and creativity go hand in hand for me :D For some, necessity is the mother of invention; for me, panic is the payola of productivity.

BRB, I have to call my bank.

Take a walk outside the house. Somewhere green preferably but of course an urban area can work just as well. When I'm lacking inspiration and the Internet itself cant help me, I often find a 25 minute walk, absorbing my surroundings, brings me to my senses and refreshes my creative eye :-)

Whenever I get blocked, I try to go somewhere that I wouldn't normally design and do up some quick sketches (coffee shop, park, anywhere-but-my-computer). I find if I'm stuck and I just sit in front of my computer, I end up getting more frustrated and not solving anything.

I just snoop around here a bit and find something in a design that i like and then base my design on it. Thats why most of my stuff looks the same tooth

I don't think that anyone has mentioned Web Creme. I also browse places like SXC for inspiration. What Jay said would also help a lot.

That does sound like a good idea, I used to do that. But I would go to happy hour at the local bar I used to manage, and have a couple beers, and sketch. I think I might do that today. Thanks everyone, here's hoping for some kick ass designs for the New Year! :)

I'm not a designer myself, but when I start any project like setting up a website or writing a big script, I got out to a park with a pen and pad and write out the basic structure. then I get back into my cave and do the coding.

That is a good habit to follow, both for creativity and health, unless you happen to wander past a pub or two ;)

Sometimes channel hopping on freeview yields good inspiration for me, you can see lots of current stylings mixed up together in all the ads.

Plans and ideas can come to me when walking the dog or just waking up (keep something to write on by the bed, you come up with some interesting stuff).

I like to take a walk to my bookstore. I find that book covers and magazines are usually tastefully designed. Most of the color schemes I use in my designs are from book covers.

I don't do much web-design. . .more of an appreciater of it :P But as far as art goes (I'm a musician), I find if I'm artistically blocked the best thing is to take a day or two totally off. Don't even try to get out of the slump, do totally new things you have never done before. Lots of new experience = lots of new inspiration

I like to take a walk in the park or just start doing random scribblings. I find that listening to music can help too. Soon the ideas start to flow.

I like to run/bike/snowboard and listen to music when I am having a design slump; but when it comes down to looking around on the internet for inspiration I like to visit LogoPond: and yes they are logos but they seem to bring design ideas into my head.

Nice ideas guys. I like the idea of going to the park, or taking a walk and taking in the surroundings.
