    I would use Notepad++ (as perthmetro mentioned) or Nvu, which is also WYSIWYG if you like that sorta thing.

    I use Eclipse + Aptana, which is great for CSS as well as JavaScript.

    I also use Notepad++. The only thing I'd like is for its auto-complete feature to be automatic instead of hitting a hot-key to get it to work.

    I use notepad++, and I don't bother with auto-complete; I just use it for the pretty colours and the find/replace function.
  2.
    notepad++

    Topstyle is a great css Editor
    http://www.newsgator.com/Individuals/TopStyle/Default.aspx
    There is a Topstyle lite version free for download which is quite cool but the pro Version is even better. I especially like the option that there is a color panel at the left with all colors used in the style sheet. There you can quickly check where you have used the different colors in the stylesheet. And if you want to use a color you can just drag and drop the hex-code by moving the color from the color panel right into the style sheet. Unfortunately this is only a pro feature but this and other features makes it very comfortable to work with css code.

    DreamWeaver CS3!!!!

    Say it or not, when I need to get my hands dirty in CSS I use Microsoft Expression Web. Their css editor is great! It might set you back $90 I think...

    notepad++ is definitely great...and i have been using it for long time...
    Intellisense, syntax highlighting are must have...it speeds up things...
    since i am deep into php, something which would cover that would be great...

    Eclipse plugin !!! wow i must try it then...

    @cthelight:is 90$ worth it ?

    Has anyone tried/used Zend IDE ?

    if you have DreamWeaver, why not use it ? it has find / replace, auto-complete and all the features you need. and the good thing is that you can see how the pages look like without having to open in a browser. use it in code view. But, yeah. it is expensive (unless you know how to get it inexpensively wink )

    and definitely the best alternative is Kompozer.

    dw is definitely better than Kompozer, N++,

    looks like eclipse is my best bet, else i will have to stick with dw...

    @ramblingsoul: hehe *wink*..

    kalyan: I use Zend Studio, and for PHP it's irreplaceable. There are other threads on this forum where I've praised it as the best. However, for JS and CSS I use the Aptana Eclipse plugin. Zend Studio *can* handle JS and CSS (with color coding, auto-complete, etc), it just isn't as good as Aptana.

    The best thing about Zend Studio paired with Eclipse/Aptana, is that it works on my main system (Linux), my laptop (Windows XP), and my Mac.

    If we had to declare a winner, I saw dreamweaver, but Notepad++ seems like everybody's favorite.

    @kalyan:
    send it: colum A@T thelostworld D.T us
    subject: Expression Web key

    you can give it a spin before you buy ;)

    And its the upgrade that costs $99

    I hated Dreamweavers css editor compared to kompozer, it adds a lot of unnecessary steps.
