I was thinking why dont we have a 1 click approval system in place which will take screenshot, validate the design with w3, zip it up, put it in downloads folder, and yes ofcourse only after an admin verifies the rendering n stuff...
services are available for taking screenshot of any page instantly, for free, w3 provides vaidation service, what else ?
this would releive everyone of the painful 15 day queue...what say?
also it will save the admins some time...
thoughts ? -

what about rip-off designs ? -

- CommentTimeApr 30th 2008
rip-off designs is a different issue,....
well just as it was suggested in another thread..we can have a "report" button or something...and if a design gets say 5-10 reports, it may be unapproved and further decision is left to the admin/mods
if the queue moves fast, atleast then it would encourage designers to submit new ones, od of late is becoming a showcase for few names freecss,metamorph,etc... -

We already have a semi automated process in the admin area. The queue issue is because people wanting designs showing on home page for a specific amount of time. They also forget that they are also getting home page exposure on attackr.com too - but designs are being approved on a nice pace... or at least it seems so... -

It sounds like one of the only improvments needed is to have an abuse link on the header above each design. When the link is clicked, a new form shows which would allow a user to report a certain type of abuse (javascript in page, duplicate page, copyright violation, etc.), records the id of the template in question, and the users id along with a date/time stamp. Moderators and admins could then review these reports and take apporiate action.
Duplicate page action would take a certain amount of users to report before the removal of the page in question.
Javascript errors would be easy to determine.
Copyright violations would be one of those iffy things...checking against the license, graphics, things like that...
But you get the idea...... -

That is a dilemma... The designers all like to see their designs for more than a day on the home page but now the site has become so popular that it's creating a bottle neck... what to do? -

How about make the thumbnails on the home page smaller & show more designs. Right now only 6 are shown at one time...why not show 12 or 15? -

maybe reduce the size of the thumbnails on the main page a bit and move the 'download' and 'author' link to underneath the thumbnail. that way there could be two thumbnails side by side and the number of designs on the index page could be doubled.
never mind, bob beat me to it. -

I'll reduce the screen shot size later today and have more show on the home page and see how that goes. -

I agree with this. This would help out a lot. It could also be a job of a mod to investigate each abuse case.Posted By: bakercadHow about make the thumbnails on the home page smaller & show more designs. Right now only 6 are shown at one time...why not show 12 or 15?
This is another good idea. I remember my last design got rejected, then placed on the site, but not on the home page. I was pretty upset over this, so the more front page time, the better
In the future, I'd love to see a rotating design on the home page. It would be nice to have a previous design on the home page, which is highlighted for the week with a description of the design, or a review. Some beautiful designs get pushed way back and get forgotten. This could be another job of a mod.

I liked that size thumbnail for archive purposes... would it look too bad if they were just scaled down to a size width="xyz" so we could still save the thumbnail as per the size it is now? -

It takes me 2 minutes per design to approve. That is not the issue, we already use an online service for screenshots etc.
If it were automated how would you check for text in images? Yes a script could be written to "determine" if it though there was text in an image, but it would never be 100% accurate.
But the main point is that approvals are done every day, 6 at a time. This is to give the designer exposure on the homepage. So if there are 60 designs in the queue, and you submit one now, you'll be "waiting" at least 10 days whether the process is automated or not. -

I like the idea of speeding up the process by adding more to the front page. I would prefer to do it without shrinking the current size. What if we simply let it scroll more, and maybe even displayed the designs in a random order (not all of them, just the ones on the front page). -

One more vote for the abuse link idea. It would remove some unnecessary* threads from the forum, I think. The forum should be a place for dialogue, not somewhere to dump your complaints.
*Not that the issues are unimportant, but the forum's not the best place for them. Maybe something like WordPress's Kvetch would work better? -

@SeanPollock: The random idea is a good one, however we have over 1,000 approved designs, so it might take a while for everyone's designs to get on the front page.
Maybe have them randomly change once an hour or something? or do we think just every time the home page is refreshed change them out randomly? -

@Sean - I may be reading them wrong, but I think they're saying that the order of the latest templates which are featured on the front page is generated randomally. Right now it's random as to who gets the top spot, so doing this would balance that out. -

@Christopher: i did mention of admin reviewing the design..rendering,images,etc...
Maybe we can have something like "Designs this week" like the one on OWD..
And rotate the front page designs hourly ( within the latest designs 'weekly' or 'daily' list ) backwards, so first approved will show up first and the queue won't be blocked, whilst giving all designs equal exposure..
The expanded view is a good idea too...
Also how about showing "xx designs in queue" in the submission panel ?
@sean:let me know if i can be of help ? i can help out with the stuff, vacation is almost here for me :D... -
