@ Sean, you're missing the point, and you're rationale of "you win some you lose some" is very uninformed. This is merely the same as having preferences as any normal election has, but it's by another name/method.

You say what's the point in having a vote if we can change on a whim... that's the whole point!

XSQueen has a great point in that their added themes can't be voted for... my system allows for this too - otherwise this vote is wrong already. Sean it is fair and it is the best way, I urge you everyone to agree to this otherwise the vote could be a sham like the last contest.

We need to drop the two votes and allow changes.

This is the only way everyone's vote will be equal, and the only way the vote can be fair.

you all are crazy...lets vote on what we want and then tally...easy.

no changes, not second thoughts...done...no dragging it forever though the mud

@pete: i am not missing the point. i spoke my thoughts and that's that and i am not uninformed.

example, if we could change our votes for presidential elections, etc, a ton of people would do that... but when the day comes and we place a vote, we think about it, make our vote and hope for the best that our vote wins.

how is that thought process wrong here?

people need to think about what they want, make a vote and stick to it is my main point. if they don't have a decision made yet, then don't vote but don't wait until the last minute or your vote might not get counted.

if people have questions, ask before you place a vote. pretty simple.

i agree with sean, a vote should be final - but that brings me back to the stupidity of people being allowed to add ideas whilst the voting is taking place.

OK, fine... Then the vote needs to start again and Sean (or someone) needs to decide on what themes we can vote for after which there can be no more additional themes nominated. And since we're running this like a presidential election we can only have one vote. If we have two votes then we need to run the preferences as per a proper presidential election which is very complicated.

    Over to you Sean.

Edit: Oh, and I'd love for someone to explain to me how exactly it is any less fair in allowing us to change votes during the election? If anyone has a friend in an election authority I'd love it if you could show them this thread.

Lets make some use of the last one and ONLY put up ones which were voted for. Then we can start a tally.

You've actually justified my whole point here Jason, if we do it your way we are in effect doing exactly what I want... changing our votes to make our votes worthwhile... you see it does actually make sense.

Since I'm not a major contributor, I probably don't have much say here. However, I think a discussion (similar to this one) should be run for a time (say 2 weeks). At the end of that time a private poll (meaning you can't see the results before or after you vote) with the 3 or 4 most popular ideas should be implemented. Of course, something should be implemented to make sure a person can only vote once (logged in to vote?). Give the poll a couple weeks. It seems like a fair way to implement this to me. Anyone with me?
  1.
Sounds relatively fair, but you are talking a lot more work for Sean before he can run a contest that WE asked him to run, since polling/voting isn't set up on the site.

Example, in presidential elections, where any candidate won't get over 50% votes. Then there is another election between two best...
Here in od we don't have to be so stiff, and could change our votes so winner is chosen...

Just a couple of notes, who chooses the "template" for the "OD Garden", if that ended up being the winner?

Could we not have two competitions - the two most popular with the prizes split 50/50?

Yes, just finalizing prize money, should be in hand by morning... speaking of which, be sure if you are going to be enterning this upcoming contest that you can accept your cash prize (if you are a winner) via PayPal. Payment will also be in US funds, so if you are outside the US, you are responsible for exchange rate information, etc., so when prizes are listed, they will be in US funds.

@Joe: One question, do we have the contest submission thing working again 'backstage'? If not, we need to get something in place for the upcoming contest... this thought just crossed my mind...

On my comment above (May 2) I asked Joe about the contest upload link. I have not heard back from him, so we might need an alternate method for contest entries unless Joe replies or Christopher knows if the uploader for contests is working properly. We don't need contest entries not going to the right place.

Sean, the worst thing can happen here is if the contest is delayed too long or god forbid doesn't happen. As far as I'm concerned (and I'm thinking most others) you should just go ahead and do what is needed without anymore consultation from the other 2 admins (if they were keen to see this contest happening i'm sure they'd be 'involved' with this discussion) to get this contest racing along. Maybe some of us here can help with resources to assist with uploading, polling etc. if you need any help - even it if it means setting it up offsite????.
