As of this post, I have removed the Kontera Ads from OD. They will no longer show up on the home page, design pages or in the forum.

At this point, we only have Google Adsense running.

The money earned to date on Kontera will be used for some sort of contest as I mentioned in a previous post.

I will follow up in a couple days on that once I talk with Joe and Christopher again.

The site should load a little faster now that it's not trying to load the Kontera code.

If you notice any improvement in load times because of this, please comment.

I think the servers deserve a nice back massage for all the weight they were pulling with those ads.
They made some money though, sweet! I'm excited for the contest, always brings out the nicest designs.

With the ads gone, why not have a once a year 'donation' day where we all donate something to OD? $5, $10 whatever. Sort of like an appealathon. We could even donate 10% to a charity if a set target is reached?

For me (Phoenix) it's very fast right now.

It may be just temporary, but for now it seems very good.

yes, but what are we donating money for? the hosting is free so there aren't really any expenses. a competition? we haven't had a (successful) competition yet, and i'm presuming there was enough cash from kontera/google ads brought in over the last year to cover at least one contest.

truth be told, I forgot we even had them. *pats ABP on the head*. But still, glad to hear they're gone.

I actaully installed ABP on my old machine because the kontera code lagged the whole system. (2x450MHz PIII, 4x256MB SD100 RAM, 2x74GB SCSI HDD, Nvidia GeForce 2 and Creative Sound Blaster.)

Works great! I got rid of Kontera on my site a long time ago too.
