Does anyone here know of any free program I can download that can capture an image of a .wmv or .mpg file I am viewing on my computer?

I have tried the 'print screen' option, faststone, and a bunch of others, but none of them seemed to be able to do it. I was not sure if there was any program out there especially for this.

    Thanks.

This is a great media player. It does screen grabs too.

    Open Source to the rescue

Thanks everyone. This forum is great for someone like myself who is not a true designer. I will check into your link Matt.

Karen, I have faststone, but for some reason, it did not capture the full image for me at home or work. It works with everything, but video for me.

Edit : Oops.. i didn't realize Matt already had suggested that. :)

use VLC Player to play the wmv file, hit the pause button to still the frame, go to Videos menu in the menu bar and click the last one - snap shot.

will give a .png snapshot of the video

I was playing around and decided to upload my videos to webshots. Interestingly enough, I can capture a picture there easily using my print screen feature. Pretty cool.

It is just a runtime library some applications need to run.
