I decided it was too early for me to move on to a dedicated or virtual host, so I followed neuens recommendation and created a dreamhost account.
I need some help on some basics though. The control panel is not very user friendly (as an example the database controls are under a tab called "Goodies") and for some reason I can't find out how to log on to my recently created database.
niemi.it is perfectly connecting to the database, and I can create and manage posts so the DB is clearly working. But how can I log on to phpMyAdmin and import my old DB?
I've contacted the support, but they want me to create a sub domain at dreamhost for some reason and I can't really understand why that is necessary when the new DB is already up and running.
I've read their wiki but their heavy use of SSL doesn't suit me. -

Just incase anyone is wondering on how this is done here are the steps:
1. Make a Hostname (Under Goodies/MySql)
2. Create the database. (Under Goodies/MySql)
3. Go to http://[name_of_hostname].[your_domain].com From this point you should be able to login to your phpMyAdmin account. Which will give you access to all of the databases on that particular hostname. -

Hey neuen, I did that, but for some reason the databasename.niemi.it would take me to niemi.it. I think it might be my .htaccess telling every sub domain at niemi.it to be redirected to niemi.it, but for some reason you can't edit your .htaccess files once their uploaded, their hidden.

Don't they have support during weekend? And have can you actually submit a ticket, get a reply and then reply to that reply? It seems you have to open up a new ticket every time. -

Do they have a filemanager? you can go into that. Or try another ftp program, because some programs hide the .htaccess. -

I have still to find it. CuteFTP handles .htaccess.
Can anyone confirm that you can't get support during weekends, or is it only true for me? -

I've tried accessing items with ftp and found as cthelight mentioned, file manager (c-panel or?) is a whole different animal and may give access where other ways cannot even ftp. Just saying... -
