I'm designing a site for a contractor that wants a testimonial box on the home page and a testimonial page.

I would like a database solution where information could be entered. e.g. testimonial quote, project type, first name + last initial of client.

I would like the home page box to pull a random testimonial up to a certain maximum character limit. Then have the link to the full testimonial page where it displays all the testimonials, maybe sorted by most recent or something.

The closest I've found is this http://node777.net/tquotes.php

Does any body know of a script that is capable of there parameters? Or maybe would like to take it on?

    Thanks
    Len

What kind of database are you using... mysql of flatfile?
  3.
There is nothing set up yet but it's on a shared hosting with mysql access.

    Hey Len,
I created a testimonial page for a client of mine where they can enter "Name", "City" & "Testimonial Quote". I do not have a random script set up for displaying on the home page, but it would be easy to do. I could probably edit my code to work with what you need. How quickly do you need it? Might take me a few days (pretty busy)

We should each be assigned a unique number and only refer to each other that way to avoid confusion.

Dear 34455676 (aka Len aka squirrelnmoose) : I have a flat file version that does just what you want if you are interested. Wouldn't take to much to turn it into a db thing.

Sigh, vanilla actually does give each user a unique ID number, but I can't remember how to access that right now. I'm number 10 or 11. (1106 posts, only 5 people I could find have more than half that number, 2 of whom are not staff; I need to do more other stuff).
  4.
    I'm 11, and you're 10.

The top five posters (in terms of comments added) as of right now are:
    1. gnome (1106)
    2. Christoher (910)
    3. Sean (883)
    4. perthmetro (798)
    5. JeremyD (633)
slightly off-topic but never mind :)

Why use the numbers.... uniqueness in names is expressed through a Username such as... NickyD.... So NickyD seeing as that is your username do you mind if I refer to you as said user name....
Wow im a smart @$$. Sorry guys lol

    I like it!

Hey Bob that would be awesome. I am not in a hurry for it at the moment. If you could edit your code to suit, it would be much appreciated.

566787 (in robotic tone), I think I will take Bob up on his offer. If you want to send it my way it's always nice to have options.

Hi bakercad... I was looking at your site when a client walked up to my desk and pointed to my screen, saying "That's EXACTLY what we want!" ... Any chance I can also piggyback onto squirrelnmoose's request? Please?!?!? *bats silly eyelashes*

I am SLOWLY learning php and mysql so it may take me a bit to understand what it all does but I'm not a total bonehead, so hopefully I can sort out how to make it work with minimal supervision. I will be AFK May 8-20th (motorcycle trip with the hunny)so if you do send out info can you please do so to lil [at] xaosqueen [dot] com ?

No edits are needed but if your code is commented for boneheads like me that would be an absolute plus. Would cookies or a cool biker tee be a decent bribe? bigsmile

I would like to have a working model by next week, say the 9th.

I hope that works for you. Some of your other work I've seen is good and am looking forward to this little gem.

    Thanks,
    Len

LOL. Lemme know which (since I'll be at Bike week I'll need to know what size to pick up if you prefer a tee - and color choices blah blah blah ;) and what "flavah" imagery - since not all biker tees are skulls and T&A ;0

try saving files with UTF-8 without BOM encoding. If you use NotePad++ as your editor, select "Format" from the top menu & select "Encode in UTF-8 without BOM".

Don't forget to save it smile

I'm using Dreamweaver, tried re-saving, didn't change anything so I opened in Notepad and re-saved. That took care of it. Thanks! That could have taken me a while to figure out.
