I've posted this on my blog, but thought I'd ask some of you.
Do you find web hosting to be frustrating? I've been with dozens of hosts, all of them had problems either with support, costs, availability, or staying in business. I realize that it can be a low margin, high support, dizzying business, but just for once I want it to work out ok for more then a few months.

I've stuck with the same host for nearly 2 years now. Once every few months theres a couple of minutes of downtime. And there was one day of complete downtime earlier this year (first and only time that's every happened). Other than that, it's a pretty reliable host.
my only complaint is that customer service is a pain. I marked a hosting package to be closed 2 months ago and I still get emails telling me I've got a bill to pay... -

Generally, what I've found is that you get what you pay for. It sucks to have to bite the bullet and pay out, but it generally pays off. If you can't pay more than $XX for a host, consider choosing one that offers reasonable features for that amount, rather than one that offers TONS of things for that amount. Chances are, the latter is lacking more in support, reliability, etc.
Having said that, I now host everything on Rackspace servers (for that very reason). They are NOT cheap (REALLY not cheap), but they have excellent service, amazing uptime, knowledgeable support, you can reach a real person 24/7, and you get an account manager and business development consultant, so you always get to deal with the same people. -

Good points all. I'm spending $57/month for my hosting. I find it frustrating that that amount still doesn't get me something reliable. I feel like the only way to get on top of it is to go dedicated, but I don't think it should be that way. -

LiquidWeb Reseller account ($30/month)
30GB Disk
300GB Bandwidth
cPanel/WHM
Reseller capable
Media Temple Grid Service ($17/month + $20/month)
100GB Disk
1TB Bandwidth
Dedicated mySQL container (The extra $20/month)
Multiple sites capable, but not reseller friendly (No control panel for clients)
My math sucks...tired...I pay $67/month for all of this. All told, I'm responsible for about 26 domains from various registrars (eNom, Moniker, Tucows) between these two hosting packages. Media Temple reliability has been bad the last few weeks, but the latency is takes to run a single WP page drives me nuts. I liked MT though because I could put people under my one account that didn't need a control panel. My liquid web reseller was nice because I could give the more savvy users their own cPanel install and it is much faster (sub second response as opposed to several seconds). -

I've been with my web hosts Ion Web for about two years now and I'm quite happy. I know my demands are low and I could get hosting for less, but I like the fact that these guys respond quickly whenever I've had a problem, which has not been often. -

yes.. web hosting is horrible. i've been through a lot of providers, but i have settled down with a vps from linode - it's a little more work than shared hosting, but you get a lot more control. i have vhcs installed as my web control panel which makes life easier. -
