I'm looking for some work, paying preferably (I may not charge for Non-Profit Organisations).

I am rather inexperienced, only having designed my Portfolio (Pixl Design) and my Surf Club's Website.

I also don't know what I should expect to be paid, so I hope for someone reasonable to take interest.

Try searching this forum on the topic of payment... at the end of the day you charge as much as you want and the customer decides if it's a good deal.

It's too hard to work out a price based on what each customers want. Run by your own standards.

Work out your time, your expenses and the profit you want... simple as that really. Consider offering 'package deals' as customers prefer to know upfront how much it will cost.

Also offer to organise/source/set-up their hosting and domain names (they pay for it though).

If you want people to look at you as a professional business then you need to work hard on looking like a business i.e. 'marketing'. I'd suggest your website doesn't show you off as being website design business, but rather just someone who designs websites as a hobby. Your current site is too personal. It's allllllllll about appearances to capture that initial interest.

I'd suggest doing some freebies in your local area... find a few small businesses or community groups and let them know what you can offer them for free! And lastly google and read up on how to market and get your name out there through networking (business cards are a great start google "vistaprint"). Asking here is fine but it's only one of many ways you need to work at if you're serious in getting 'work'.

Good luck!! and keep on asking questions

Welcome to the world of freelance web designers, it is not the easiest place to be. You need to persuade your client that you can design and deliver, be reliable and up to date on all the latest innovations. Whether you are or not is secondary, as long as you have access to great resources like this site where you can ask questions and find the information, coding, scripts that you need, and also ask for help.

Your portfolio, as Pete replied, is too limited to give a potential client an idea of your capabilities. You need to show websites that you have designed and that are actually online. I agree doing a few freebies in your community will build not only your portfolio but also your experience. Then you also need to find a way, besides online to market your abilities. Post ads in your area, supermarket, condo, church, library, advertising what you can do, web design, photo enhancing, etc. It is all about selling yourself and building confidence, in essence marketing.
