I'm new to creating CSS based sites, and am trying to work on the "Ruby" template from this site. I want to change 2 things, but I don't know where to start. Instead of having a black block on the top, I want to replace it with an image. I tried changing the actual image to a longer image, but it doesn't work. Next I want to incorporate a drop-down navigation that I found online. Anyone have some time to help me out with these?

    Thanks.

    Welcome to the site!

Can you provide links to your image and your navigation? I'm sure if you put them up, you'll have some new code in no time. That's the way things work 'round these parts.

Thanks. The link to the navigation I want to use is:

    http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex1/droptabmenu.htm

As far as an image, I don't have one yet, but I want it to fit in the black section. Here's the link to the template from this site.

    Thanks again.

would you like this template? You can download it HERE complete with a CMS so you can add as many pages as you like and edit each page like a word processor. I can modify it for you to have a drop down menu if you like.

That's an awesome template, but it's a little more then I would like to start with. I'm just working with the Ruby template as a start, but I would like to include the drop-down nav. I appreciate the suggestion though.

@xsvNRG: Based on the template's CSS, I don't think it's gonna be that easy to replace the black part of the header. The image used as a background of the wrapper includes the red strip, the black block, and the white part, and repeats horizontally (repeat-x).

Sorry couldn't be of more help to you at the moment.

Don't be intimidated by the 'awesomeness' of the template.. it can be dulled down to suit what you need. And the CMS makes it very easy.

@ xsvNRG: If you'd like I'll set up your website with a simple CMS for you (free). But it will have to wait until next week as I'm a tad busy at the mo.

Do you think I could just make the bg image the width I wanted and not have it repeat? Anyway, thanks for the info.

    @ Perthmetro
That would be awesome. Any help would really be appreciated. I really just wanted to try and do a horizontal drop-down nav along the top. Then use the same 2 column layout as the Ruby template, so a CMS system would be awesome.

    Thanks again.

@xsvNRG: You could always do that. Retain the red top strip and the bottom white part of the bg image and edit it to the width of your image, then insert your image where the black area should be. Then change the CSS to no-repeat. Although I believe loading time will be seriously affected.

    Good luck!

Amazing... no. I have to giggle when I hear compliments like that. It's not my template nor my CMS ;) I'm just 'playing' with it. But I remember being a very new newbie a while ago and thinking the same. I'm just happy I can contribute in my own way after 'leeching' of this group for so long.
Gimme a few days or so and I'll email you the whole package. In the mean time keep on posting any tweaking you'd like done.

NRG, can you give me an indication as to how many links you want across the top horizontal menu an how many drop down links you want in each one as these need to be manually inserted for the CMS to work/

I wanted 7 links on the top, not counting the homepage. I was thinking of making home a separate link.

    For the sublink:
    Link 1 - 3 sublinks
    2 - 2 subs
    3 - 3
    4 - 0
    5 - 0
    6 - 4
    7 - 2

I think that's the way it needs to be. Thanks.

You can download the files HERE.

    1. create a sub-folder called 'cms2' in your root directory
    2. unzip all the contents into this directory
    3. type in www.yoursite.com/cms

and it should work! let me know if it doesn't.

    enjoy,

    Pete
