What software are you guys using to make graphics for your sites. I am using photoshop (on my mac) . . . and am very satisfied. What do you guys use? (e.g. MS paintbakie)

What are your favorite features (mine is stroke and somedtimes gradient)

What would your websites look without that special program of yourstwosome

    etc.

contemplating my relationship with my software, (just kidding)
    SunRise.

P.S. does anyone here know how to figure out what day of the week the most people visit your website?

Photoshop and its vector paths. I should probably be using Illustrator for this, but I've been too lazy to learn it.

I am so bad at graphics, largely because I lack vision and creativity. Some people can look at a site and immediately they know what logo header image should adorn the site. Me? LOL. I struggle.

However, if I had my druthers, I would love to have Photoshop for my Mac, but I cannot afford it. It's worth every penny, but 1000.00???? I had that sort of cash once in my life, but not now.

I use Image Ready as it is free...more or less....It's inferior, though. Very limited.

I use InDesign as my base for layout.
For making my graphics I will use Illustrator or Photoshop.

I use mostly inkscape. This is a nice vector graphics program and it's free.... From there you can export your drawings, logos, etc. to *.png.

Sometimes I use GIMP, you can do a lot with it, but the interface is driving me nuts (very cluttered and not very user-friendly).

For those interested, GIMP is coming out with a new interface with v2.4. It's a RC right now. I heard about it here. Currently, I use photoshop and occasionally GIMP. I'm trying to find some other programs right now so this is a good thread.

summitr: some of us like the not-so-friendly interface of GIMP, because we spent ages using it. I can do most stuff without even touching my mouse, because the hotkeys and accesskeys are memorized. I also know how to use fireworks, but I don't like to use it.

FIREWORKS is simply the best (sorry Jason bakie)!

EVERY graphic on my website I did with FIREWORKS. Have a look here, what is possible:

gnome: I don't have a problem with GIMP's interface. I just thought eurogrande (and others) would like to know since he mentioned it. I actually like the interface.

One reason I don't use fireworks is because I only have access to it at school, nothing against the program. It has a great many vector-like features which are useful, and it was made with web graphics in mind, so it has some serious advantages over GIMP, albeit at a cost in performance and money. The only reason I mention performance is because (with some serious effort) GIMP can be compiled to run very fast, while fireworks can't.

    Fireworks here too.

On a completely unrelated note, I noticed on SunRise's original post, when I mouse over "mac" the kontera ad I get is for Windows Live Search for mac. Sounds like somebody has an inferiority complex...

So many using Firworks, surely someone can tell me how to enable dual view, just like in Photoshop.

I have two monitors but Fireworks won't allow me to drag anything to my secondary monitor.

And also, can someone provide links to any tutorials showing how to create mockups from scratch in Fireworks CS3? I'm doing it a lot in Photoshop but it seems to me the approach is pretty different if Fireworks.

    @niemon

It's pretty much similar making a mockup in FIREWORKS. As in Photoshop you use slices and you can export HTML and import it directly in Dreamweaver. But for the HTML export tables are used. I don't know if the latest version uses CSS since I'm using FIREWORKS 8.

Niemion: not many programs support dual-monitors in that way. Try having the program not maximized, and then dragging the window to be very close to filling 2 screens. I do that with a lot of programs.

Well, I find it very odd that Photoshop which is part of the same package as Firefox supports dual-screen perfectly, when Fireworks can't.

I have tried your trick, it doesn't work either.

I find the approach very different. I'm not talking about exporting anything, just creating a design effeciently. I find the tutorials on tutorialized.com very superficial and not very helpful.

I now use an Ubuntu machine (workspaces rock!), mainly, so I would say the GIMP. It's as good as Photoshop (which I used a lot before) in many aspects, IMO, though it's not as intuitive an app. I'm used to GIMP's interface, but the new interface summitr looks interesting; I like the tabs (I have a strange preference for them in every application I use lol).

I still use Photoshop, albeit not on my primary computer (aka the Ubuntu machine). bakie
